Anyone have a picture of the starter access door on a GMC 5303 suburban? I've got a large water tank from wall to wall right behind the rear wheelwells. The water tank is about 12 inches from the rear bulkhead. The floor area is flat and ends in the rear bulkhead. Is the access door on the horizontal part or the vertical part? I suspect I haven't uncovered enough layers back there.
I hope it's not where the walkway ends somewhere under the tank.
Getting along stripping out the PO's conversion interior and re-configuring for it's new life. He made metal 1x1 square tubing walls and shelves, painted the metal black, and used either 1/4 or 3/4 plywood, stained dark, and put it on the inside of the metal framework. We've pulled most of the wood out this weekend, and I think we can re-use almost all the metal work, facing the inside with the old wood repainted, and the outside with beadboard.
I realize yours is a GMC transit, and mine is an AMGeneral transit-but many things are built the same. On mine the rear bench seat was built into the bus and right in the middle is the hatch you unscrew to access the starter. It looks like either the rear bench seat was removed or GMC is different-then the hatch would be on the rear bulkhead.
Maybe someone else has an answer. Good Luck, TomC
There has been wood added on the original seat back and seat bottom The area between the seat bottom and the floor has an original full width panel screwed on. If the hatch is there somewhere, I'll pull off all the wood to find it. I don't want to be stuck somewhere with a bad starter solenoid or cable end and not able to access it because I didn't spend a little time now while working on the bed to find the hatch and provide access.
I just took 4 pictures of the inside and outside of the back openings on a original 5303. The starter access hole was hidden behind the decorative panel. Below the seat was the big access panel. If you send me a e'mail to storeit@sasktel.net I can send all photos as it takes too long to reduce each picture to post on this site.
This shows the small panel below the opening is accessed by removing all the little screws shown.
That's golden. Means that the enormous fresh water tank isn't covering the doors. I'll pull the wood today to expose bothe panels to make sure, and take pictures for the record here.

S8m-5303-131 doesn't seem to have the starter access door, unless I'm not looking in the right place...
