Title: 2017 Non-Rally at Palmetto Cove October 12th to 15th
Post by: kyle4501 on August 30, 2017, 05:22:53 PM
Wow, How time flys !
The first Non-Rally was in 2007.  http://www.busconversions.com/bbs/index.php?topic=5664.0 (http://www.busconversions.com/bbs/index.php?topic=5664.0)

This years will follow the same theme as the others -

Friday night -- Spaghetti & salad provided -- deserts needed

Saturday night  -- BBQ & beans -- bring your favorite sides or desert

The Cove now accepts reservations, so make them as soon as you can & tell them you are with the bus-nuts.
http://www.palmettocove.com/index.html (http://www.palmettocove.com/index.html)

All sites are full hookup with lots of 50 amp sites available.

So, who all can make it?

Ned, be sure to print this out and give it to Wilma - she will be able to tell you where to go . . . . .

Directions
From Atlanta, GA
• I-85 N to exit 1 (SC-11 N)
• Pass SC-8 South on right
• Continue ~3/4 mile
• Left on SC-8 North
• Left onto Table Rock Rd. (just after bridge)
• Park is approximately 2 miles on left

From Charlotte, NC
• Take I-85 S toward Spartanburg, SC
• Take I-26 W
• Follow directions as for Columbia, SC

From Columbia, SC
• I-26 W to exit5 (SC-11)
• Turn left on SC-11 South
• Turn right where SC-11 joins US-276 W
• Bear right to stay on 276 when it splits from SC-11
• Take hard left on SC-8
• Right on Table Rock Road
• Park is ~2 miles on left

I roads are necessary for those of us that still have to work for a living . . . . .

Ned, you really do need to get out more.  ;)

I-85 was built in '58, I-26 followed 2 years later.

See if you can get your grand kids to show you how to use Google maps ( better than paper maps & you don't have to fold them.   ;D  )

You can use an I road, but, you will need to use some self restraint and obey the posted speed limits -- might save some on your fuel bill too.  :o

The roads around table rock are narrow and quite exciting to drive, even in a car.

Kyle   The last time I came up I85 from Athens Ga. to Cheessnee SC it cost me 415$ in fuel.

That was in the 4.00 dollars per gallon days.

But I was in front when I got there.  LOL

my be that way again in a few days by the way fuel price is climbing today.

Can go from Lenoir NC to Arcadia Fl with out getting on the I roads.  a good 2 day trip.

Saturday breakfast will be omelettes in a bag  ;D

Also, a reminder - Since this campground has no shower/ bathroom facilities, DHEC requires all RVs must have a functioning shower, toilet and kitchen. If you don't have these, you will be referred to another campground that can accommodate your needs.

Hey gang,

Wife and I are interested in going.  I've never been to a bus rally.  Is there any information or agenda?  I've heard that sometimes there are classes given or vendors but maybe this is strictly a meet and greet.

Any additional info would be great.  If we commit, it probably wouldn't be until Friday but it depends when we can get off work.  Do people every show up on Fridays or are they too full by then.

Never mind, wife looked has Reserves drill that weekend unfortunately. Looks like the wait continues to cut my teeth on a rally or "non" rally.   :(

It seems like drill weekend is always on the only weekend where there is something you really want to go to. :(

Now that I have graduated(retired), I don't have the extra income it provided, so it is a double edged sword.

I refer to it as more of an "eat & greet" Non-Rally.
Dinner Friday & Saturday night & Breakfast on Saturday are about the only things planned. Everything else is spur of the moment.
Some bring their motorcycles to enjoy the local mountain curvy roads.
Some bring their musical instruments & enjoy playing together.
Some enjoy the local attractions.

I enjoy catching up with old friends & making new ones!

It is rare that the park fills up, but they now take reservations, - just tell them you are with the Bus Nuts!

No rally fee, just pay the campground fee & contribute to the rally the best way you can - helping prepare meals, bringing side dishes, putting something in the donation pot at the meals, etc.

If you have something you want to sell, put it in front of your bus & see if you can help someone out.

My first and only bus rally was a Kyle Non-Rally at Palmetto Cove.  Highlight of my bus career.  Snowed on the way down, we followed Google Maps to find the camp ground, came in a back way that had the front corner of the bus hitting trees on the outside of the corner and the little towed car mowing down grass in the ditch on the inside of the same corner.  Had tornado warnings on Sunday that had us scampering for asphalt to park on rather than grass (I'd had bad experiences with grass, lots of rain, and buses).  Spent a lot time at 25 mph on I 26, in second gear.  Lots of fun, I hope to be back before I toss this mortal coil.

I remember that visit, y'all traveled the greatest distance. I so wish I could take longer trips. . . . .

I'll bet that engine upgrade would improve those  speeds up hill on I-26 !   ;D

I'm hoping I can get the parts to fix my Stone Bennett shifter - the bottom air cylinder is full of rust.
I'd rather fix it right than band aide it & have to deal with it again, soon.

Parts arrived. . . . I didn't order enough.  :'(
I hope they arrive soon - It it is getting old having to set the park brakes & run around to the back of the coach with a stick to change gears . . . . .  :o

Kyle   Picked up Huggy Friday morning about 11,30 am Kentucky time.

Arrived home about 9.30 pm Lenoir time.

Hy 58 across Vir. from Middlesburo Ky to Bristol is just a little bit crooked.

Used more fuel from Corbin Ky than I did on the rest of the trip.

Hope mama is ready to try another trip by Friday.
