First time changing my own oil. I need to go to the local auto parts and order oil and filter. How many gallons will my 6V92 need? What filter? Do you have a brand or number?
I know I need Straight 40W. I often see Rotella available. Just don't know how much.
Dave
When you get the replacement filter, make sure that you have a filter wrench to fit. We ended up not having one and didn't have much luck finding one on a Sunday. Ended up having to make do with the old filters until I could get home and get a wrench.
Dave you will need 8 to 9 gallons. I always get 10 to have an extra. filter don't know on the 92 we have the 71 with a screw on and it might be the same. NAPA 1791MP or LF667 Fleet guard wix 51791MP (amazon prime)
When you start to change the filter, take a punch or screwdriver and punch a few holes in the bottom sit back and let it drain. I then took a plastic bag and put it over the filter and unscrewed it. sure didn't weigh as much and stopped a lot of the mess.
takes 7 gals with the filter and uses a Napa 1970,Wix 51970 ,Fleetguard LF 670 or a Baldwin BF 670 filter
My 6v92 takes 6 1/2 gallons I use delo 40 cant remember the filter Number but I could look later if you want.>>>> John.

I'm betting you knew that off the top of your head ;D
put your drain pan under the filter.
punch a 3/8 to 1/2 inch hole in the center bottom. a heel bar works well.
go have a coffee.
filter empty ? no. more coffee, use a larger cup.
yes ?
drive heel bar clear thru filter.
remove.
install new filter per inst. lube seal, contact base. add 1/2 turn.
no wrench needed.
no heel bar...#4 philips...big flat tip. get creative.

Been removing oil filters with a screwdriver since I was a kid. Still don't own a filter wrench.
Strap type filter wrench works well.
