Well, I saw the eclipse from the back yard. Where I'm staying, the eclipse went right over. Big bonus - no fuel nor $950 a day parking fees!

We where 5 mile north of Alliance NE in a pasture. Was the best 80 buck I ever spent. (20 dollars a night per person per night) IT was spectacular another good thing is we went north east when we left and did not run into any traffic. That to was on my bucket list but did not get taken off just moved down as I would do that again.

I heard that there were organized protests against this eclipse; something about its path being discriminatory.  Did you run in to any of those groups?

No but I can believe that. But I missed out because it was mostly cloudy around here.
Perhaps God will repeat it next week. :)

Have to say it was a great experience. My oldest and I here on the back deck having lunch, in the famous Jefferson City, our Capital of Missouri.
We were just a bit from center line as the tracking went, so I "leaned usual right" and the show was great.
In the moment finally! it seemed like a Wooshh and a big bird flock flew to rest or nest or just freaked out  :o  at the same moment it hit me roosters were crowing By gosh!
We nodded our heads down it seemed the same time flipped thee ole nasa approved paper glasses up, blinked and had a sip, laughed laughed, Wow  pretty cool it was and Hey hear that~crickets n katydids. Throughout the viewing my other kids did their face time on the phone to me ( kinda new to this jetson stuff i am ) and another at college and all the students in an area viewing the same.

it was a good day

Zephod, awesome image! It brings back the memory of this amazing event.

We decided to run the bus down to a stubble field across from Walmart in Rexburg, ID. This was hosted by CrowdCare Foundation and we could not be happier with their efforts, the hospitality of everyone we met, the weather, the bus, and of course, the incredible experience of being in the path of totality. There are no words to describe it; you really had to be there. (I can't wait until April, 2024 for the next best opportunity on the continent -- from Texas to Newfoundland).

A partial eclipse is nothing like it and we are so glad we decided to go.

Thanks. It would have been far better had I taken the polarizer off my lens.

This is off topic stuff guys. Not bus tech.

Sorry.

But we did drive the bus to the eclipse path. Does that count?

That counts as did my comment about not paying the $1000 a night some joker in Oregon was charging.

And once again we have more daily clutter in what should be a very bus oriented section of the forum.

Do you mean "daily clutter" like, say, "Anyone live in Gettysburg? Need parking" ??? That's relevant to about just about nobody outside of Gettysburg. (I could discuss my doctor's appointments, too. But, daily clutter, you know?). Just let me suggest that my trip to the eclipse path, Zephod's OP about parking charges and the other comments here are at least as -- if not more -- relevant than "Need Parking."

I have tried to keep tongue firmly in cheek. A bit of subtle humor is always fun and I have been around this forum long enough to see plenty of that. (Some of us lurk a lot more than we post). So please don't take offense. But it seems to me most people scan the subject lines to choose items of interest and skip the rest. Perhaps you could try that!

The moderators may disagree and I respect that too.

Don, having been members of tons of properly moderated forums, chit chat is supposed to be moved to off topic for organizational reasons. This forum used to be more consistent in that department. I've noticed that certain long time highly contributing members here have had their posts moved because of this, and yet other newer members posting a lot of superfluous threads in the bus topic section don't get reorganized. It's becoming a daily thing...I'm not the angry type, nor annoyed, just trying to help keep the forum clean as it's a huge resource to a ton of bus owners. The more organized it is, the better the information transfer. I agree asking about bus parking in Gettysburg isn't necessarily bus topic, so I'd be happy to have my post moved. But feel free to read my past posts from the past 8 years and you'll find it's rare that I make this mistake. The forum moderators are ultimately in control, but I'm voicing my opinion.

Fair enough. And I voiced mine.
