Title: Advice - Use Fuses!
Post by: Tikvah on August 06, 2017, 07:35:57 AM
I have four 24 Volt to 12 Volt relays for my tail light system.  That provides me a nice set of towing lights that can be used with my toad or a trailer.  I also have a 6 wire to 4 wire converter since the coach has separate brake lights and and turn signals.

My wire between the coach and the toad got caught on something, shorted out, and fried all the relays and the converter.  I wonder how many miles I traveled, in traffic, without any towing lights.

So, I'm ordering all new stuff today, but this time, I'm also going to include a fuse block just for the towing lights.

- Just a tid-bit of hind-sight advice  :)

You're lucky that nothing more fried.
I just spliced into my light wires (then the circuit breakers for the tail lights will do the job) and created a 5 way plug (left, right, stop, running, ground). Course, my bus is 12v, and I use two sets of magnetic LED lights on my trunk. The lights work well, and only take a couple extra minutes to setup and take off. Good Luck, TomC

self resetting circuit breakers

Cost you more now, cost you nothing when you start troubleshooting shorts.

No risk or attraction to use wrong fuse when you have burned up all the right ones...

And reset after a momentary short caused by that dynamic short, in the dangling bare stuff.

happy coaching!
