Saw the spec for this light oil type self leveling/ leaking stuff out of my manual Steering box.
Say's in the manual you can use #1 in a pinch, anyone have experience in this area? Bus is a 68 Fishbowl, Thanks!
Did some more searching and Gus ended up using grease in his box..

"Part of my problem was lack of lubrication in the box. I solved my gear box oil leaking by using grease instead of oil. It made the steering much easier also. Now I grease it before each trip because there is no way to know how much grease is in the box. I'm sure it isn't fulll because is so big big it would take a lot of grease to fill it. Mine has a zerk fitting on the bottom of the box which I think was originally used for gear oil."
Now if I only knew which kind ;)
As a fellow fishbowl owner, let's see some pictures! ;D
What do you put in your steering gear? 1968 S6M, pretty rough right now.
Need a passenger window some lower door hinges, window sash to sill rubber, couple airbags etc..
I'll try and get some pics soon though!
We've been running grease in our GMC 4104 steering box & bevel gear in the steering column since 1979 without issue.
I have found in rebuilding rollers for a crawler of mine that a flowable grease is just the ticket. I have to say this is mainly because seals are unobtainable. So i had a company make felt seals that are simple and work under compression when mounted. This has worked well with the new machined pins and bushings.
For benefit grease flow is generaly mesured at about 70 degrees so a no. 0 is rated soft. Where as both no. 00 and no. 000 are considered flowable. With this i considered i do work in the cooler temps so decided and happy with the no. 00 grade. For example only i have used this below for about 12 years and use a grease gun to apply. The roller pins have the grease zirt.
Good day

Thanks all,
Oil looks like the right way to go if you got a heavy load or drive alot, If the grease works and does not leak thanks dtcerrato!
I only plan to drive it as far as AAA RV can tow me for a while ;)
brmax Good Knowledge, thanks! I Was beginning to think I'd imagined reading it!
Guy at the truck place here in Eugene said "nothin your tellin me makes any sense at all" when I referred to the grease Nipple and #0 sg Lube.
