We have decided to take the propane out of our coach, and want to go with totally electric cooking surfaces. (Before you get started, we don't boondock, if we do we use a 10KW generator).
I have several methods of cooking outside, but I thought on that rainy day, maybe a 2 burner cook top inside would be the answer. I want a smooth ceramic 2 burner cook top. I have been looking, and boy are they ever expensive.
I was hoping someone out there would know where I could find one cheaper?
Thanks,
Dave Siegel
Ebay. I got mine for around $60 a few months back. Search "electric 2 burner" in the kitchens category and set that up in "favorite searches", then have ebay email you any time someone lists one.
With some patience you can get just about anything for what you want to pay for it. Unfortunately there's none there now except a buy it now DeLonghi for almost $500... yup they are pricey!!!
Good luck
Thanks, I have been searching on Ebay, and your way of doing it sounds great to me. I saw that DeLonghi also, but it has a stainless steel border that raises up the stove about a 1/2 an inch. We have such a small counter top I wanted to use the rimless ceramic glass top, and then that could actually be part of the counter top as well, you know for cutting limes for drinks, etc.
Dream on, Dave.........Dream on.
Thanks again.
Hey Dave, theres a couple 2 burners on ebay fairly affordable,
Item number: 140078423700 and
Item number: 140078423862
This one might be toast but it'd be a total steal if you can get it working...hopefully the seller is a dummy
Item number: 270083532698
Some good deals but you'll have to provide the controls:
Item number: 270082922029
Item number: 150084814804
...and again the rest of these are tops only and no controls. I'd guess the controls wouldn't be hard to
find and hook up, from an appliance parts center.
I searched "ceramic" in the "electric cookops" section

Also searching "jenn air -(range, blender, mixer, gas, refrigerator, blower, filter, water, oven, microwave, convection, slide)" gets loads to look thru including these (another batch of control-less tops)
Item number: 300071981220 Item number: 230081981718 Item number: 200072158482 Item number: 200072166683
There's lots more there, I just gave up cause I got called to breakfast..
Have fun
Gary
Thanks Gary, But I have to say that it makes me wonder??????? Why so many cook tops without controls.
Dave
More than likely just replacements for dummies who whacked the ceramic top too hard with a cast iron pot :)
They're nice, but they are glass ya know... !!
You also have to remember that ebay is now a worldwide market. Ten replacement cooktops over the entire USA isn't a very high concentration....

Just wonder if anyone checked for controls only on ebay?

Dave,
We installed a Whirlpool 120vac ("calrod" type) electric 2-burner cooktop. Most glass top surfaces today are made of "Ceran" by Schott. Nice material, pretty durable and available from some Mfg's in both 120vac and 240vac. I personally think you'll get most efficiency from Calrod (the coils). Although you didn't mention it ... I'd avoid the cast-iron burners like the plague (not very efficient ... dogs).
Just my $0.02,
JerryH.
Hi Dave
try these links for new:
http://www.sailorsams.com/mall/stove_electric.asp
http://www.wricointernational.com
Yes the sailor sams are pricey princess brand used on boats, though Dick Wright doesn't list them on his web site, he will sell to you and get the same brand cheaper than sailor sams.
try this link for used units:
http://www.rvsurplussalvage.com
http://www.rvandvansurplus.com
Both links handle used appliances and from time to time have electric ranges.
Good Luck
