Very interesting piece here and nice pictures. They even have some old ads in these buses.

Nice. Thanks for sharing.
Crabby Milton, if you wanted me to feel bad you succeeded. ;D As a kid growing up in the NY/NJ area I had to take transit buses to high school and the buses shown in the link were futuristic compared to the buses I rode to school in.
Well I certainly didn't want to do that let alone bring back horrible memories of school. :)
I went to high school in the late 70's to early 80's. Here in Milwaukee, I rode almost everyday GM NEW LOOKS with a few OLD LOOKS once in awhile. The RTS's came in in 1980 and I got such a kick out of those and that was the most common bus I rode on the rest of the years at school.
I attended school in the 40s when we did NOT have buses,,,4 miles each way and uphill both ways.>>>D

We didn't have those fancy HD TV's. Why in my day they were black and white with only 3 channels...
Couldn't resist. :)

You left out the barefoot part. :o
Well common now. Barefoot built character dagnamit.
We didn't have remote control on our TV's either. We used to have to walk 10 whole feet across the living room thru shag carpeting just to change the channel then go all the way back!! You kids laugh. But it was either that or stare at the wall.

You had 3 channels??? Now that's fancy!! When we got our first TV, we didn't!
We actually had 6. The 3 network affliliates, 2 educational, and one independent. This was in the late 60's into the 70's when I was growing up.
Oh... and buses only had 2 speed automatics back then and the V730 was considered a big step.

Automatic transmissions??? I remember that our school bus instructor carried a ruler and he'd crack you on the back of your knuckles if you "rode" your hand on the gear shift lever between shifts. Automatic transmissions would have never handled those snowy hills uphill both ways.
It took automatic awhile to become the standard in skoolies. Now stick is unheard of and they have improved greatly from those versions from the 1960's and few were actually ordered.
The most powerful engine was no more than 200hp in those. Our grade school had 2 skoolies built on IH chassis. One had a V8 and the other had a 6 which was not very common on those back then. Both of those engines screamed on the freeway. Now 200hp seems low.
Such memories.
I still cannot get past the fact you kids had TVs.
Did not know this site was for the uppity folks. I think I must have been almost voting age when we got our first TV with 3 channels and rabbit ears.
I wasn't rich(still not :) ) but didn't starve either. I do remember our first color TV back in the late 60's and that was amazing.

It is a given, if we own a bus we aren't rich. Unless we count the money we poured into buses.
At least you have one. I could buy an old skoolie just to say I have one but patience is not one of my virtues.
You kids are still talking "60s" 20 years late for the party!>>>Dan
I understand. You have to remember that one's historical perspective begins from the day of birth.
Thats my point.>>>D
