Title: On the road
Post by: mikelutestanski on July 10, 2017, 05:03:54 AM
Hello
From the road in 2017.....  left texas from fort worth to ratan on. 287...then took 64 west to taos.  NM ...bad choice. ,,cimmeron canyon and taos canyon are not very wide and made for interesting driving,,,ok if no oncoming traffic...ha ha,,, I dont recomend 64 heading west into taos..  20 mph. Watching carefully on the 180 switchbacks..
WE are in colorado now catching trains.. Did the Tumbres and Toltec  (very nice ride). Today we will do the royal gorge in canon city and tomorrow pikes peak in colorado springs..
Heading north to denver and wyoming ..
The bus is running great at the moment.. And if it continues we may decide to try alaska next spring..
ROute 160 pass betreen alamosa and wahlseburg  is long and fast . The road is deceptive and the straight stretches decending can get you going faster.  Retarder was worked .. NO passing makes it interesting. Going up west to east was easier than going down... ..
ANyway my advice (from other sources ) is go down in the same gear you went up. And keep it as slow as possible.
   SO  happy travels.
     From the road
       Happy bussin.  Mike.

keep reports coming. Glad your having a great great trouble free trip.  We need good reports to help offset the aw-shoot problems. Safe travels!!!   Bob & Judy.

Mike, if I'm not too late -- the Royal Gorge offered the opportunity for cab rides, at extra cost (worth it).  Space for two people, if I recall right.  When I was out there a few years ago, they were running F-7's, probably still the power.

Mike used to live in the Springs. Go see Manitou (If you are into Crystals and rocks)and Garden of the gods, Broademoore Hotel, Old Colorado city. Breakfast at Mountain Shadows Restaurant there in Old Colorado City
Denver is just a lot of traffic. ;D

If those roads are causing you some anxiety, I'd suggest you keep driving them for as long as you can, and avoid the interstates, if you are thinking about a trip to Alaska.

Mike

We have a place east of Taos on that road.  It is narrow but not bad to drive.  Nothing like going over Tennessee Pass in Colorado.  Have fun and enjoy the western states.

How are your travels going.  We are about to begin our trek east into flat country.  Texas Arkansas up to Illinois etc.  Hope you are doing well.
