Title: flexplate/ring-gear to torque converter bolts - loctite?
Post by: bevans6 on June 23, 2017, 08:46:47 AM
I am speaking of the 3/8" NF bolts that hold the flex-plate and ring gear to the torque converter flywheel on the MT647.  I have a clearance issue, so no washers under the bolt heads (actually shown to be correct on the Allison assembly detail page, so I feel a bit better about that.  I was taught to never install a bolt without a washer).  My question is should I use red loctite when doing the final assembly, and torquing of those 12 bolts?

Thanks, Brian.

By this question you can correctly infer that I have finally fully completed my adaptation of the Cummins ring gear to my modified Detroit flexplate and installed the transmission onto the engine for the last time...   :)

Those bolts have a locking type sealant already if you purchased them new from Detroit,if not pre treated use the Loctite
