Having problems with the kneeling feature on a 1983 MC9 NJT checked the switch what I am looking for is a wiring diagram. I have the cd from coach information network but it has nothing on this system. Any help locating one would be helpfull.
Thanks Jeff
I can fax you a copy of the kneeler electronics. A good rule is don't use it....leave it alone. It'll get you down, and exhaust all your air. Then you can't get back up! As you may have discovered.
It interlocks with the park brake, and on some units the engine speed.
It is complicated.
Pmail me and give me a fax # and I'll get it to you Sat morning. The NJT manual is in the bus, and I'll have to get it tomorrow. I'm gonna go down and turn on the charger for the weekend anyway...won't be any trouble.
If interested, I can tell you how to lose the kneeling valve too. If you want....I wouldn't keep it unless you rebuild the system. Most have a bad case of the cruds. I've got several kneeling valves that I picked up. thought they would be a suitable system to operate a leveling system..haven't done anything with them.
The kneeler was likely an NJT spec item.
Cheers, JR
On more thing, if you have an ex-NJT, there are many different parts used on them that won't be in the standard manual. Luke at US Coach has the correct NJT manual available. If you don't have an ex NJT, you won't need to buy the manual.
JR
We have an ex-NJT bus that comes here for service. We have disabled the kneeling feature, by-passing the kneeling valve and routing the supply directly to the levelling valve.
All you need to do is re-route the main supply line from the passenger side tank over to the levelling valve's input port -- the output port simply tee's out to the air-beams and can be left alone. This makes the kneel switch on the panel inoperative. If you would like to cap off the ports on the kneeling valve, that is optional -- once you re-route the main supply line, there is no air flow through the valve at all. You will have to cap off the suspension return line going to the driver's side tank, though.
This is the method that was suggested to me by the factory support rep -- without actually coming out and endorsing it!
Thanks JR the diagrams helped it only took a minute to figure out what the problem was. When I removed the bifold door and the ground was connected to a pressure switch for the door ran new wire and my problem was solved thanks again.
