Geoff,
I'm so glad to see another who will make a simple thing like a transfer switch.
Two big motor starter relays and one small "ice cube" relay.
Good for you Ceoff.

What's wrong with having 4-50amp manual circuit breakers, 2 for land line, 2 for generator (with cross switching prevention slider). Just throw them by hand. Good Luck, TomC
Cool I want to see pics!

thanks :) i'll be back :)
Thanks, Geoff. I don't think I'll need it soon but it's good to know.
I have three 30-amp outlets fed by shore power, generator and inverter, and I just plug into whichever I need. And if I need to power the inverter's charger, its cable is only long enough to plug into the first two. Simple and foolproof.

Help!! I took several pictures of the transfer switch and I can't seem to separate them and upload them. If someone could figure it out I will send you a batch of three to post for me.
Thanks. xxxxxgeoff_rts@yahoo.comxxxx
I'm too cheap for the automatic stuff. I have three plugs: shore, genny and inverter. I have no problem keeping them straight when I'm out on the road. But, for some reason when I'm at home I keep trying to use the inverter to run the converter to charge the batteries to run the inverter. I 'spose that will only get worse as I get older!?! Jack ???
I built one for my MCI.
2 - 60 amp 3 pole continuous duty HVAC contactors
1 - double pole double throw switch.
You can use thermostat wire to run from the contactors to the switch, properly fused.
Impossible to to engage both shore and genny at the same time.
Has an OFF position.
Easy to install a time delay/low voltage cut off for power interruptions if desired.

I also think it's great info to have ;D
I just have two boxes...one for the generator, one for the inverter and the 50A cord plugs into either of those or to shore.
