Title: Reputable mechanic for tune-up
Post by: 7Fold on May 18, 2017, 03:04:07 PM
Any suggestions on a good mechanic anywhere between the Yellowstone and Spokane WA areas?  My 6v92TA has an exhaust leak on the passenger manifold that definitely stems from a bad gasket  :o  Want to replace both gaskets and figured might as well get a tune up as its never had one.  I've received a recommendation from Sean (Seangie) here.  Haven't heard back from that mechanic so reaching out for other leads.

I had a mechanic look over the engine prior to purchase and said it runs well (and it does!).  Just needs an adjustment/tune-up.  Would've had him take care of that, but we just couldn't make that work.

I've read on the forum and have heard about Interstate and other commercial shops and am trying my best to steer clear of those.  I've contacted Northwestern Stage Lines, Alpha Omega Diesel and Silver Eagle Charters and they either don't work on older DDs or are out of business.  In Yellowstone now and will be heading to Spokane around Memorial Day and was hoping to line someone up by then.

Any help is appreciated!
Joe

Where did Technomadia go when they had their 8V71 rebuilt?   Wasn't it somewhere Montana-ish?

Chris and Cherie had their extensive work done at Mastertech RV Services in Elkhart, IN

Hope that helps.

Actually, I believe the engine work was done in Montana, coach work in Indiana.

That was in Billings.  Wasnt it the Detroit shop there that did it?

According to their blog, yep, it was Billings, Interstate :'( did the work.

Interstate did do Chris and Cherie's engine as well as Ed's and both were QUITE happy with the work done for them!

Also might check with Travis of Dakota Trailways out of Spearfish and see if he still has any old school techs around he and his father used to run 2 Strokes and I remember they had a couple good hands in the shop back in the day.

Tell Travis Bryce from TN sent ya. (we spent a lot of time together after hurricane Katrina!) He's a good guy and if he has any info for ya he'll treat ya right!
