HOLY COW!   Do you really want to stop that bad?   ;D  Maybe cheaper to replace the entire axles with MCI axles.  ;D

Check CTC 1-877-500-6999 or MCI sells the Prevost kits 1-800-323-1290 you probably have the Knorr brake system and they are a little pricey from Prevost fwiw MCI sells a lot of Prevost parts cheaper than Prevost

At that vintage he won't have the Knorr-Bremse and it is impossible to know if the cost is too high without knowing what is included. I think that vintage has conventional brake chambers on all axles, discs on the steer and tag and drum on the drives.

What is included in the $1500?

Thanks for your help!   Two things I have learned about Prevost !! Number one, some parts are so inexpensive it will amaze you ,number two ,some parts are so high it will bring on cardiac arrest!!!!

When was the Knorr first used on Prevost I looked in a 1996 manual and it shows both on the H3-45

Basically parts 11-20 for both sides... then one brake chamber for tag axle. The brake chamber was about $350... the rest is $1,150

If the brake chamber is the same size on my previous coach I ended up buying a piggy back model 24 unit and then a model 16 service brake and built my own for a cost of about $120.

You can just buy friction material and reline your own brakes which is what I did on my first coach but you will have to do a lot of looking before you find fair priced linings. My memory sucks but I think they are 14 X 10 for the drive.

I USED to get complete shoes at TRUCK PRO pretty reasonable. But I ain't bought any shoes in over 5 yrs so who knows. (our last buses had discs it was so much easier to just slip new pads in)

Bryan,

Since you're near The Atlanta area, you might check with Atlanta Safety Brake and see if they can do anything for you. Been using them for years and they haven't let me down yet.

They're in Mableton.....404-875-0482

Try a truck supply they may can order the kit, the parts break down shows it to be a 14-1/2 x 10 in "W" series Rockwell (Mertior) made for bus and coaches, the same as a MCI

I would try Freightliner dealers, since Freightliner owns Thomas bus and parent company Mercedes-Benz also owns Setra buses. Good Luck, TomC

The big question is-do your brakes actually need to be replaced? Of all the things I've done and rebuilt on my bus, the brakes are still original from buying the bus in 1993. There is lots of lining left, the drums are not heat cracked, and with manual slack adjusters, I have to adjust the brakes. And believe me-they will put you through the windshield. Good Luck, TomC
