Does any one know of a mobile cabinet builder that can convert a 1/2 finished bus,the one I know doesn't travel any more. I don't want to take it to a shop 100+ miles from home and drive Sonja over to check on the process 3 times a week, it starting to look like that is my only option
It's been my experience that these guys have a lot of large pieces of equipment to do a good job wjth wood,, and travel time is expensive,,so hopefully you can find someone near.>>>Dan
Bill wasn't that expensive he converted a lot of buses at peoples locations lol he is like the rest of us he getting older and don't want to travel any longer to work
A quick Google search comes up with a half dozen shops in your area. I assume you have called around and talked to some? They may not come to you, but at least they aren't 2 hours away.
On another note, I have been back home for a few days. Going to be leaving next week until sometime in October so if you're still interested in that thing we talked about give me a call.

Derrick send me your number I lost it
I don't know if I would trust just any cabinet maker to do the work. They are used to doing houses, not buses that have to endure earthquake standards. I did my own cabinets and used 1" square tubing welded to the bus for the hidden framework. I have a full size micro convection oven mounted on steel tubing and hit bumps that make the turntable plate bounce off it's mount but the oven has never gotten loose. And you never see the steel tubing in my bus because it is covered by wood. I don't know what other people do but the steel framing was my idea.

Cliff, I have a chainsaw and hammer and chisel and some railroad spikes. I have always wanted to try to convert someone else's bus. Bring it on over to my place and I should have it ready for you in a couple of days. :D

I am not looking to build a Moose Cabin or I would take you up on the offer Gary :D
Clifford just a suggestion why not have a Cabinet company put in the cabinet boxes and selves and the just measure for the doors you want, order them from HD or Lowe's Many styles to choose from. Then get them with hinge holes drilled. All you have to do is drill the hole in the box for the other end which they send a template for and install the doors. Less time at the cabinet shop and a whole lot less in price, alll solid material. ;D

LOL Dave you of all people know what I am working against
Just convince Sonja that she likes a more rustic look. Then turn me and Gary loose. I think me and him are kindred spirits although I would add 4 inch deck screws and chipboard to his list of building materials. With your money and our skillset anything is possible.
If I was closer, I would do it for you ;D
Careful what you say about my old Moose Cabin Cliff. I may do this same design on my next bus as I love that rustic look. The nice thing about it is, you can just shell your peanuts onto the floor like they do in Texas bars and when you spill your beer it absorbs it right up then you can sweep it out the door every few months. It is also a very quick build. A keg of beer and a few friends, we can knock one out over a weekend just like an Amish barn raising. :-)
Clifford sorry I just had to mess with yas!... ;D
We can pick you up on the way to Evansville in sept if your not done by then....... :o ::) ;D
Hey! Who's knocking rustic??!!?!?
Grumble mumble.

Hey Scott that ac thermostat looks just like the one on my ac ceiling unit. Did you relocate yours or did yours actually come with a remote mounted thermostat?

Love that wood look Scott. Very clean looking. Of course my last ranch house was made out of logs with a lot of wood inside.
Clifford I have an Amish customer that owns a cabinet shop who wants to bring his family out to the Grand Canyon this summer!
;D BK ;D
I was fooling around with Gary his and Phil's Moose Cabin were built by Tom they were ok but the later ones looked like they were built with chain saw ;D the rustic look is ok I just don't want it
The "rustic wood" is okay but how are you going to have matching cabinets? Use pine plywood and dark stain to match? I wanted to use hickory for my cabinets, but it is not easy to find at a reasonable price. So I took the easy way out and used oak which is available every where. It seams dark stain is the latest fad.
What are your plans, Cliff?

Hickory and Pecan ,I personally wanted cherry wood but the wife says it is to dark for her,and I like the teak-wood we have in the Trek too
What about Birch?
All of my woodwork is solid Birch and all I'm going to do (after the redesign is finished) is strip it, refinish it and add a bit of Walnut. I built every single cabinet, closet, drawer and roof seam/ceiling panel strip in dad's "other" baby myself. He dared me. But solid Birch with Walnut is beautiful, IMHO
OK...I'm a bit proud. I love building things :)
bamboo comes in many color variations
No one puts up pictures anymore how sad.... Just resize the picture to around 50 to 70 MB and it will go. ;D
The choice of wood is not the problem, the stuff is expensive so I need somebody that doesn't cut 3 or 4 times wasting the wood in other words a pro

It was recently mentioned that we could have a new website that automatically sizes your pictures AND allows bigger pictures. That would sure be nice. What's going on, webmasters???

Well...yep. But even some non "pros" know to measure 3 times...check Autocad (if you use it) scale, measure again...then cut :)
I get a kick out of watching people take either a dull, or a totally wrong blade (like metal) to plywood. I think I would be arrested if I saw someone doing the same to beautiful, solid wood.
I wish I were closer to where you are. I would gladly build you anything you wanted just to be able to pick your brain in person.
I built my bus using 2x4 and osb.
