Title: Bus ceiling
Post by: Billysurf on March 26, 2017, 08:19:58 PM
I am installing a soundproof booth is the back of our MCI 102 A2.  I want to soundproof the back room before we do that.  This is the buses original ceiling (see pics).  We need to install sound blocking material.  If we take this down, what are we getting into?

In other words, what is behind the factory installed ceiling of the bus?  Insulation?  Plywood?

In our 9, behind the ceiling panels was insulation.

Ok, cool.  is it possible do you know to put them back up if you need to?  Or, once they're down, they're down?!

Stock ceiling panels are held in place with those periodic bows.

remove bow, remove panel. reverse to install.

Is it possible that when I remove the ceiling material I will be able to glue sound dampening material to the actual metal of the roof OR will there be plywood in my way?  I would look myself but the bus is getting new airbags/tires at the moment...

just fiberglass batting glued to the outer skin above the stock ceiling panels.

Pay attention to evidence of wet, and chase the source.

On both the walls and the ceiling, I screwed in 1x2 fir strips length wise over the metal supports. This did two things-one it made the walls and ceiling thicker to accommodate 2.25" of spray foam that covers all metal, two it gave me a base that I could screw in the 1/4" plywood on the walls and 1/8" plywood (thin enough to conform to the curve of the ceiling). I painted the ceiling white and covered the seams with 1.5" wide Oak strips. Easy, and can be removed if necessary. Good Luck, TomC
