Title: air dryer troubles
Post by: revbusnut on January 23, 2007, 08:30:34 PM
I have a 1978 MC-8 871DD and 740 tranny.  Air dryer sometimes releases as usual short burst around 110psi.  Other times it seems to release slowly for 10-15 seconds.  Pressure stays up and all is working.  Any ideas?  Thanks, Kevin

Hi Kevin,

Has the cartriage been serviced recently?

I have my dryer cartriage replaced every year because the moisture can get clogged inside when they are dirty, Then freeze in the winter.

Good Luck!

Typically if your air dryer is spitting about every 10-15 seconds after you have built up air, it is the air dryers way of telling you you have to rebuild it.  If you don't the next stage is that it stops working-which means no air pressure.  If it is an AD-9, they have a rebuild kit, if I remember right for about $160 and it takes about 2 hours to do the work. It is relatively easy to do.  Just rebuild the air dryer and most likely it will perform normally afterwards.  Good Luck, TomC
