Title: Acrylic work
Post by: captain ron on January 23, 2007, 08:09:05 PM
Any of you guys bend or fuse acrylic?  In my bus I have built a ledge all the way around my bus that caps the wainscot. It will hold my collection of Miasto Harley Davidsons and OCC choppers. In my old bus they were unprotected which lead to 2 problems, dirt and kids hands. I would like a cover for them so I wouldn't have to dust them every day and to keep them safe. any suggestions? I would also not want any distortion in viewing them.

Capt. Ron,

I have bent lots of acrylic panels in the past. Mostly for some inventer friends.

with a 4ft 1"x8", I routed out a gruve in the middle about 3/8" deep and installed a 115v fabric covered heat strip.  We would run a 1/16th" grouve

in the acrylic where the bend would go with a table saw. The lay it on the heat strip for 2 min's then set the acrylic onto the jig that bent it to 90 deg.

After it would cool, we then scraped the rough saw edges with the back of a hack saw blade then, run the accetelene torch quickly by the edges to

make them look factory quality..  This works very well..  Good Luck!
