Ok guys.....everytime ive turned o this forum i've received excellent guidance. Hopefully in the future i will be able to return the same. Ok here goes. Last week I took the 102 to get fuel for an upcomming trip. Since the weather has been cold here in Florida...yup even here...the gas pedal stuck a few times and i had to manually return it while driving. When I pulled to the bus into the fuel island...put it in neutral...fueled the bus ...still idleing....when i returned to the bus the "dont shift" light was blinking...check trans light was on....and no shifting was able to happen. So...i shut the bus off powered down the master, disconnected the battery for 30 min, reset the ECM cables at the ATEC area in the 3rd bay ....still check trans light on,dont shift still on. had to have it towed to the house. I suspect it might have something to do with the "beer can" TPS. but my central question is how do i retrieve the codes...which must be hard codes since they were not cleared via power disconnect....is the test switch the momentary switch in the ATEC compartment in the 3rd bay? Ive held it down and had someone sit in the drivers seat to see if they see it blink...no luck check trans light remains steady....am i an idiot?
regards,
Ray
I have the ATEC controlling a V731 but I suspect the reset procedures are the same. Worth a try any way.
Put the ATEC test to ON. Shift the trans to REV and back to N. It normally resets the trans but retains the codes to be retrieved later. If the code is 21 (throttle position sensor) then it can take as many as 5 power to ATEC on and off to reset the self calibration feature of the throttle sensor. Also check the oil level. If low it will set a code and do not shift.
great! thank you so much. Ray
Found this by Googleing problem.
Hello and thanks for using Just Answer. My name is XXXXX XXXXX I would like to help you with your question. You don't state the year of the bus,but if the keypad has a do not shift light in the upper right corner,I belive you have older Ht 700 Atec transmission. You cant use any arrows on the keypad to pull and retrieve codes such as Allison Wtec 2 or 3 controls. You can try to power down the transmission and disconnect the batteries when you were checking fuses you should look back in the fuse panel for anything marked ATEC or Trans. After you power the bus back up try selecting reverse then neutral a few times,it may reset the light. If it was a later model you check codes by pressing both arrows at the same time and releasing them, the first time you should see OL 70,press them both again and D1 and then a 4 digit code would come up,while the code was showing holding down the mode button until code cleared, "As long as it is not active",would be the way to check and clear codes.Atec controls sometimes had a diagnostic switch for the transmission that when turned on the dash light would flash the codes for you, "But I don't remember seeing one on MCI coaches.
Let me know if you need any more info.
