I bought my bus in November 2014 and have been single handedly converting it from a schoolbus to a motor home.
Remaining to do....
Complete panels for the inside of two windows
Main breaker box to be installed
Reversing horn to be fixed
Right windscreen wiper to be fixed
And retitling as a motorhome.
When I say single handedly I mean no help from anybody.

Our first bus was a 28' Ford schoolie with a 292CI. We raised the roof 18", plumbed it, wired it, installed a pressurized water system built around an old boiler tank and a 12V air compressor. Added 2 reserve fuel tanks for boondocking, insulated and covered the walls and ceiling with T&G knotty pine before living in it for several years and then selling it to a ski bum that lived and worked on Mt Hood. That was back in the late 70's early 80's when I just got out of the military and wasn't ready to settle into a peaceful society. Or as I tell the grandkids today, the good old days. ;D
When I first joined this board I also said the word "done" when I was working on my conversion and the first response from another bus nut was " you are never done". Hate to say it but 3 years after that , I'm still finishing the never ending details of a "done" conversion. I also found out not to be surprised that you work on it by yourself a lot because most people around you ( including your closest dearest family and friends), think your NUTS. A technician who has assisted me on a regular basis in the 8 years I've been at mine said recently "Based on what I've seen of how you build things and then redo them so that they're 'better', you're about 230% done!" That's one that I have to plead guilty to! And yeah, we get it.
Took me 6 years to do my bus conversion. Only had help during one summer to do two person jobs-like hanging interior plywood walls and ceilings, and the aluminum panels on the outside to cover up the windows not being used. Good Luck, TomC

I get a lot of help Dave5c helped me remove the oak framing which I appreciated very much then it only took 4 of us to move ??? the claw foot tub into the bus. if it wasn't for friends I would be no where ;D ;D ;D I did notice after moving the tub inside Tim,Matt and Andy didn't hang around long
38 years later, same bus, the only bus we've ever owned. We have even remodeled the original conversion (that we originally did) when it was a seated bus in active service. Yes, the original conversion is antique also - real scary. Well here we are 38 years later, & you know what!? You guessed it - we're almost done. :-) wouldn't have it any other way...

I can proudly say I "get it" as well.
It wasn't enough for me to help dad build this bus the first time. Oh no... because I am a nut, I decided the "done" needed to be re-done. So I'm to the frame in the rear...working around items that would need to go out through the windshield because it's staying in for the time being.
Two things different that I can't help but notice...I now get the pleasure of doing this on my own (made possible in large part to the advice I get from all of you) and I can change the things that I lost the debate on the first time :)
But after three buses, I now know it will never be "done". I wouldn't know what to do if it was.
