I just saw this on Craigslist.

I can't imagine anybody buying a rusty relic that won't go and needs a brick to hold it in place.
Cute bus but sadly a scrapper.

This is a beauty. It has a lot of potential. Someone is going to build a beautiful bus conversion out of this rig. :D

Some are going to
dream of building a beautiful bus conversion out of this rig
The Tires still have plenty of tread too.....Money Saved there eh!..... ;D
I have seen some pretty cool "rat rods" that shared the rusty metal quality, but I don't think it's going to work in this case. It's more like a ratty rodded-out scrapper. What it weighs while sitting on a recycler's scale, is what it is worth. The brick is a good sign that it might roll, at least.
Old buses are ugly people someone somewhere will love it
Looks like the bus from MASH tv show
James
The bus on MASH was built on a FORD chassis but it's in the same time period. It would have to have automatic for me and it would be a good candidate for a new V8 or V10 gasoline engine or CUMMINS diesel.
I'll pass but at least it's in my price range. :)
I am telling my age now that will have the inline 6 Blue Diamond engine 241 to 269 cubic inches they were made to compete with GM's 248 and 270 cubic inch inline 6 engine of that era fwiw
I am for sure dating myself, but I actually drove these things as a youngster while in school .Slow but these things would climb a tree!!!! As for the single red light in the front and the back ,they were all that way back in those days .Hydraulic brakes with a vacuum booster and these buses were also orange (not yellow) and were grey inside .The green interior were introduced in the 1953 model year.1954 brought a grill and fender update. I believe this was the first change since 1949.
All busses are beautiful until they are scrapped. This is still a beautiful bus...

Those buses built on the IH L model were just a 100 hp too,lol all the engines were named some type diamond
I think IH branded those engines as SD=SILVER DIAMOND GD=GREEN DIAMOND RD=RED DIAMOND BD=BLACK DIAMOND
BG=BLACK GREEN(I think).
One of the skookies at my grade school was an IH chassis mid or early 1960's LOADSTAR that had a six, which was quite rare since most of the LOADSTAR's had the V8. The school had a near twin of this bus with the V8.
The one with the six really struggled on the freeway probably not much faster than 50mph. Not designed for speed but likely and adapted farm tractor engine that could pull a 747 but not very fast.
LOL and they had super diamonds also.it was simple back then you told the parts guy you had a 269 super diamond and he opened a book !!!!! and gave you parts. The whistles and bells then were a radio, clock and maybe a spinner for the steering wheel
It's hard to believe that NAVISTAR is pretty much out of the engine business now. Their diesel version of the conventional skoolie offers CUMMINS as the sole engine. Never say too big to fail.

Well your signature says it's the DT466. I remember back then NAVISTAR had a partnership with DETROIT and they rebadged it as the DETROIT SERIES 40. Same thing otherwise and yes, that DT466 is legendary.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE???!!!!
The seats are ALREADY REMOVED!!!!!
You want somebody to do EVERYTHING for you???!!!
You might as well just buy a sticks and staples, already done!!!
Just gettin' LAZY, I think!!!

See the trouble is that we live in an all or nothing society. It's either a brand new PREVOST with more features than a house or an old skoolie with no seats. I can't afford the former but can afford the later but we often forget middle ground.
My way would either buy a used stick and staple or an old skoolie, tear out the seats, throw a mattress on the floor and call it a conversion then perhaps add some more nice things to it and dream of something nicer. :)

I wonder if a nice DD371TI or 471TI would fit along with the very necessary RTO6610 Fuller? Also don't forget the single stage Jake! Nothing else would be necessary except new complete axles, springs, brakes wheels and tires. New model disk brake versions naturally. Maybe air ride and air brakes. Maybe some inside work. A nice truckers seat would work for the driver. Maybe some neat Stewart Warner vintage gages .... ... ... :)
