How noticeable is an exhaust leak when driving?

I was thinking loss of power at the top end....

If it's a turbo'd engine it can be very noticeable depending on the severity of the leak. Depending on where the leak is it can also be a fire hazard. A few weeks ago I had to completely rewire a major portion of the wire harness in the backend of a Fleetwood pusher as a result of an exhaust leak that was ignored. Talk about a nasty melted mess.

Any exhaust leak will affect turbo boost on 6v92TA,with a bypass blower it is more noticeable on top end torque

Dave Galey had an exhaust leak that caused a fire in the rear of his Eagle Coach years ago, that he detailed in one of his books.

On my truck, I had a down muffler going back to the up pipes on the back of my big sleeper. The flex pipe before the muffler broke open and sounded great. I drove like that for a couple days until pulling a hill I lost all air pressure by melting one of the air lines. Had to get the truck towed, new flex pipe, and spliced the air line. About $1,500. Learned me real good. Good Luck, TomC

Lord! I thought when I graduated from 454 G M 's I was getting away from manifold leaks !!!!! On the 454 's that I had ,I had changed exhaust manifold gaskets so Often ,I could change a set in about 40 minutes .Finally wised up and started using header gaskets .They would last longer but you still had to change them out .

On my first s&s with a 440 dodge I finally had a special set of headers made after several exhaust manifolds burst.

Could open the motor hatch going down the road and they would be red hot.

That was the reason I became a bus nut.  Worse vehicle I ever drove, scary when passing or being passed by a big truck
Also in a cross wind.

My first one was a 1975 Winnebago 20 footer with a 318 heavy duty engine .It used the metal exhaust gaskets that came in sections. The manifolds would warp and you could be using 3 or 4 on one section and none on another section!!! Boy!!! Those were the days!!!!
