I know this may be a long shot but I am looking for a baggage door for a MC5B. The right forward one to be exact although I believe them to be the same. Mine has developed cracks and although I believe I can repair it, I think I should be safe and start a search. Anyone have any leads?
I am currently in South Carolina. I plan to head towards towards Washington state in late February or so. I would be happy to reroute if needed to obtain a door.
IBP in Florida matches the fluting on all the different coach panels.
See about getting a fresh outer skin and make repairs?

Down through the "Parts" tab, "MCI" and then, "other models"

I am considering what they have to offer yes, but my skins are decent, the cracks are in the stamped framing. I thought that since I am driving across country, someone might have parts or a parts bus to get options. Thank you.

Check with Sam Caylor at Caylor Supply in Rantoul, KS. 785-878-3405.
He may or may not have what you need, but be forewarned: he will not "dicker" on his prices - he will simply hang up on you.
He really isn't a jerk - he simply refuses to play the haggle game. He knows his inventory and knows the market and thus prices his parts accordingly. So don't argue or attempt to barter, it's that simple when dealing with Sam.

Weld it?
I have an arc welder and I'm in SC though my welding is fairly rough and ready.
I appreciate the offer, but the stamped frame is very thin and made of aluminum. Not welding that should be atempted by amateurs including myself. Unless I can snag another, I will wait until I return home to disassemble and repair properly. Probably reframe or add doublers. I will probably add new pneumatic lifts on both sides of each door as well to balance the lift pressure. Stainless hinges might be in store as well.
Is your door the same as this? Cool Bus...I've never seen one, but 1971 was the best year ever ;)

That's my baby. 1971 MC5B. Although mine has a brand new mid-century style leather interior. Outside is getting paint stripped and going back to polished stainless this spring.

1971 = Year you were born, daddysgirl? ;D
Anyway, the photo from the Hank's link is actually an MC-5
A, not a B. The "B" model has rectangular clearance lights, not bullet-shaped like in the Hank's photo.

I used to think that as well, but I have a bonefide MC5 B model per tag above my seat and I have the rounded protruding clearance lights. It looks like mine was an early build, (one of first 10) and got the 5A lights but certainly not the 5A dash per any I have seen in person or pics.
I would need a B model parts book to confirm, but my book is an A model. I would love to find a B model book, but with only 350 built, in guessing not many books were sold or survived.
Also the A had the big old ivory 21" steering wheel. The B had the smaller 18" black wheel.

You guessed it :)
I don't know squat about that model, but the photo says 1972. It might matter. I was trying to see what his doors looked like.
In regard to the clearance light issue on MC5B models, here is an example:
http://www.trainweb.org/hamtransithist/CCLMC-5B.html (http://www.trainweb.org/hamtransithist/CCLMC-5B.html)
Canada Coach Lines took possession of 20 MC5 B models. On unit 2145 the lights are round. On unit 2151 they are square. My point being that some B models have rounded cab lights, mine included.

Thank you for the info! I've always thought the 5Bs only had rectangular clearance lights, it's interesting to find out that early production models carried over the 5A's round lights, so I apologize for sharing incorrect info
I wonder which coach out of the 350 built was the first to get the rectangular lights - that would make for some intriguing research!

Round to rectangular...
The arrival of rectangular lighting on the MC8, and waiting to use up the on-hand stock of round lighting still left.
MCI was happy to drag the jig out and knock off an MC5 whenever an order came in, parts sat there waiting.
The Canada Coach Lines rosters suggest sometime between fall 1974 to Summer 1975.
Changing the face of the MC5 coach to an MC8 spec and calling it a MC5C was a similar issue, reduce part counts, as inventory was consumed?
happy coaching!

I agree with Buswarrior in that MCI chose to build on order and use up parts with the exception that the key part to use up was the front fg nose caps. Hard to store and little outside demand as well as they were not suitable for the "modern" square lights.
In getting back to the original topic, anyone know of an available baggage door?
Unless that inner door shell is all bent up, there is no reason not to get a welder that does aluminum to do the cracks. Just remove door and go find a welder or two.
