Replaced my 2-31 starting batteries. What shocked me (parden) was that Don Fairchild put these batteries in when he did the turboing of my engine in 12/2006. Considering these batteries are not on the charger and I don't have a battery cut off switch, 10 years is really good battery life. I replaced the Interstates with a battery called Duracell. The two out the door were $193 and are made in USA! Hopefully will get the same battery life. Good Luck, TomC
The Duracell are made in the US by East Penn Battery those should be good batteries,I see those in Sam's Club
Seeing that an 8v-71 starts almost before you hit the key, no wonder they lasted that long.
Yes-even thought my 8V-71 it turbo'd, it still has the high compression 2 piece pistons for good cold start. When I hit the button, it started on the second compression hit. Good Luck, TomC
That's great life, Tom. Where did you pick up the Duracells?

Thanks. I don't have a Sam's membership ... with as little as I need "bulk purchases", the membership fee is *way* bigger than most of the savings that I usually make. May be time to refigger!

You don't save enough on batteries at Sam's to justify have the card just for batteries, sometimes the same batteries are less at Walmart lol tires are always cheaper at Walmart TBA centers

Thanks, that's good to know. My Type 31 batts are 7 years old - they're from NAPA. I always tried to keep them charged and watered. They're OK but showing signs of age; I'll have to replace them soon.
Tom must have gotten a good deal, I think mine were a little over $200 seven years ago and he beat that.
Bruce,I don't about your part of the states but we have a national chain here Battery +Bulbs he will meet and beat anybody price unless it a 1 time sale from the others and they sell the Duracell batteries the last G31's I purchased from him were $81.00 ea about 6 months ago fwiw

Thank You!! That's really helpful! They're more common in S Carolina and Georgia (I think) but we can find them here. I'll check their website.

Sam's has a guest ticket...I know liquor, prescriptions, and possibly automotive are not an upcharge...groceries etc. add 10% w/o a membership. Might be worth a look.
Oh and if you have a reciept and the gas station has an attendant he can swipe a crd for aone time fill up.
and the best part, you can eat hotdogs for $1. :)

Thanks, Don. That's good to know, I'll keep it in mind for when I need it. (Or forget it if I decide to get a Membership.) :)
Battery + Bulbs is where I picked up the Duracell batteries.

And I just found out that B + B has just opened a store in Wilmington. That's 35 miles from me but only 2 miles from where I go to pick up Delvac synthetic for my TDI so -- since I live in a town with 2500 people and usually can't find anything local -- I'm calling that convenient. And they're doing a 10% off "order online/pick up at store" deal.
Thanks for the info! BH

I think that these stores are franchise stores and therefore .set their on prices. The one in ASheville has been high on every thing I have ever asked for a price on .We used to have a place in here called Battery Pro that was real good, but the guy that owned it sold out and the new owners are selling a Korean battery .These things just don't last .

Our store will deal what I like you are talking to owner here, he ordered me 2 -8D Calcium sealed 8-D cheaper that I could buy the fill type from the little green people or Napa parts stores. This guy here never charges you for a battery core up front but does ask that you bring the old one back says he doesn't like to deal with paper work.I am sure the stores vary from place to place though
Yes, no core charge, but bring the batteries back. My store also gave 10% off since I was buying 2.
When I switched from the 8-D bats in the bus to a couple of Group 31's the manager in the Napa store I went to where I got the 8-D's only wanted to refund me the core charge on the 31's which at the time was $10. each and the core charge I paid on the 8-D's was $35. each. He said the only way I would get my core back and applied to the new batteries is if I stayed with 8-D's. After pissing back and forth, we compromised in the middle. He couldn't get it through his head that I paid the $35. each in good faith when I bought them and should only be charged the $10. each for the 31's. He finally agreed to give me 2 - $20. credits for the 8-D's and charged me the 2- $10. cores for the 31's. That was 2 or 3 years back. The 31's are doing great so far and a lot lighter weight but I will never give that store anymore business of mine.

The 2-31 Interstates I just replaced were 10 years old. They are not on a charger like the 2-8D Lifelines are. I could throw the switch to activate the jumper solenoid and connect all batteries together. In the 10 years, (the Interstates are sealed) I did nothing, not even clean the terminals, to the batteries. Like they weren't even there. Hope I get the same service out of the Duracells. Good Luck, TomC
