Anyone know the degree of difficultly or cost range of stopping an annoying differential leak that leaves calling card at every stop short of a diaper? It is an MCI MC5B with an 8V71.
Is it the differential leaking at axle housing or the drop box leaking ?
Seems to be the left hand side of drop box.
Is the fill plug tight, and there are 2 places on the back of the dropbox they don't have gaskets crawl under there with a 9/16 wrench and check the tightness on those bolts use some kind of blocking before crawling underneath the bus,it's probably just loose bolts
I will check that first opportunity tonight. Thanks. Probably need to check level as well. Do you know by chance what oil is in drop box? It doesn't leak at every stop but here and there I find a puddle big enough to warrant investigation. Options in the road are limited at times.
The drop box and the differential use the same grease as they are a common path for lubrication, there is a plug on the side of the drop box that where you fill the drop box and differential you do need to fill it drop boxes and differentials are not cheap and drop boxes are getting scarce now
Yes must check level ! I lost a rearend in 2012 because of level I had just bought it !!! I know I should've checked it !!!!! I would have but just got home with it who would have thought
Give the breather cap a twist while under there.

Will do. Thanks for the tips and advice. Maintenance manual shows SAE 140. I will pick some up today and find a spot and time to torque bolts and fill it up today or tomorrow then go from there.
