At the present, I cannot seem to remember where it was that I read it, but the article said, "Scientists recently dug up a chicken in Antartica that had been buried for some five years."

They fried it up, and said it tasted "delightful." (I will bet you eight to five, you were thinking I was going to use that old, tired, standard cliche, weren'tcha?  Okie made up word to add to the mix)

I have in my possession at this time, a Fruitcake I received for Christmas in 1963 and it still is well preserved and ready to eat.  Even after being stored in the lawn-chair on the porch all this time.

As our culture rapidly descends into chaos it still should be considered a rule of life.  All of us should remember that "friends do not give friends Fruitcake" for Christmas.

It simply is not done.  Come on over to the Dark-side Jack ... We have chocolate.

(I received your missive and have made note of it.)

What's with this phobia against the humble fruitcake?   I don't get it.   It's the one thing, maybe the only thing, I enjoy about this time of the year  -  I know it's madness season once again when Costco has their fruitcakes stacked up to the ceiling.   As soon as I get it home I drench it in a good Calvados brandy, but in years past I used to use Laphroaig whisky for a nice peaty smoky taste.   Then after a week or so another drenching until it can take no more.   When finally consumed it's essentially become just an alcohol delivery vehicle, sort of like a cake version of a German Rumtopf.   You know there's enough brandy in it when it burns with a pale blue flame when you set light to it, like a traditional English Christmas Pudding that's always lit before being served.   Any food with a flashpoint can't be that bad.

Hydrating for the Holidays!

A new Fruitcake tradition.

<><><>

A friend of mine, Clifford Allen, has suggested that I need to get more sunshine or get out into the sun or something or rather?  I do not understand this at all.  I have no plausible reason for my anemic Albino appearance to some friends and family.  My cable rep suggested my tuner might be off and I do have that rattle in the passenger side door, just under the door-knob.  It could be just about anything ....

We all laugh at the fruitcake jokes but my late grandma used to make them and they were quite tasty. You may just have to spend money to get a good one. Johnny Carson used to say that there is only one fruitcake in the world and everybody keeps passing it along hence, it's as hard as concrete.

When we lived in Colorado Springs each year in the next town Manitu Springs they had every year at Christmas time a Fruitcake toss competition. It was the best use of the Cake we had ever seen. Some threw it some tossed it, some built slings and slung them many feet. It was great fun. You could use your own or use one of their's. LOL  ;D

Having started all this fruit cake bashing, I need to apologize to my wife.  Chinese though she may be and not born with the same Christmas background as her scandanavian husband, She makes a delicious fruit cake each year which is then salted away for 5 years to steep in an annual bath of something alcoholic.  Starting next week at tea time (3:00 PM,  Earl Grey tea)  we will be nibbling on a delicacy created in 2011.  Sorry there isn't enough to go around :D
