Is the problem you are concerned with about how to secure it?

my wife likes her baths . so I installed a bath tub in the M C I and riped out a beautiful kohler shower in the featherlite and installed a bath tub just not a claw foot . biggest problem is the shower curtain system for the claw foot tub look like crap . I had to use a L shape curtain system instead of the glass walls that were in the old shower  , but it sure made the bath room look a lot bigger   .

happy wife happy life

It does make a bathroom look bigger I give her that, and securing is not a problem,to me it's the friggn plumbing and fixtures to go with it.It's a tub why do need 3 different type shower heads for a tub ? .The shower curtain and the rail looks good on the one she purchased and it should for the price, stepping up 2 ft to take a shower to me is dumb but I am losing the battle and the war  ??? I can only stall so long

I think I once had a plumbing project that wasn't like that but I don't remember for sure; if I did, it was a long time ago.

fixtures  ! fixtures  !  my featherlite is from the vintage 2000 remember . I have GOLD PLATED grohe bath , kitchen taps and drains ,  and for now there are staying only because it would cost me a small fortune to replace them and all the other shinny brass parts with the same high quality units . remember the shower sprayer that had all the different spray patterns it can do , some as a massage  ???

Have installed a lot of them just not in a Bus. The phone handle shower head works the best. When done you hange it flat at the front of the tub. Slipper tubs are the most comfortable. If in a bus I would suggest a flexible drain joint maybe just under the floor so you don;t see it and flexible supply lines or joints also. Remeber you sit on the edge and slide the feet and legs in then stand up. Don't lift leg and climb in. Use the least amount of curtain down-rods as you can and placement of them is critical because of where you want the curtain to open and close. Get the soap dish that hanges over the edge and put it where you can reach it.  If you got the up pipe for the shower it also has to support the ceiling ring and curtain so side supports work well. HTH ;D

Clifford,,,You will have to hold Sonia by the scruff of the neck until you are hooked up to a dump station if your tankage is too small.>>>Dan

Find a claw foot that still actually has claws. Then convince it hold on tight in the turns.

Depending on the size and weight of the available cast iron tubs, you might have a little bit of trouble wrestling it in the front door or window, or any hallway or door it has to go through. That might get you of the hook, plus we don't want to see pictures of you when you lose your grip and get crushed. That's no way to go, being crushed by a claw-foot.  ;D Maybe there are fiberglass reproductions.

Yep We could leave on the 28th of December and get be there on the 30th. That would give us until the (3rd through the 16th at the RV resort we got free tickets too) but could drive back in the jeep its only 20 minutes from you if we need more days. We leave Bull head city on the 17th for Quartszite. So there is plenty of room in there. Hardest part is getting it in the Bus and get flooring down first as well as any wall covering that might be behind it when done. ;D

I would tell her that it is beyond my abilities to do it, that it would cost her $25,000 to have somebody else do it, hire Dave to do it for $5000, take the rest and go to a casino while he gets it done.  ;D

Would go with a fiberglass tub instead of cast iron. Why carry around those extra few hundreds of pounds of the iron tub?

Being you wont be allowed to use it, best get some advils as moving it in surely your gonna need them.
You may have to resort one bay for water heaters, but your scoring points off the charts so rock on!

LOL I don't need water heaters the diesel fired system will make as much as needed that is one thing I don't need to worry about unless she runs out of diesel fuel  ;D

Cast iron holds and radiates heat very well. My question would be about support and storage. How are you going to support the weight of the tub full of water and your wife? and how many gallons are you going to need to plan drainage capacity for, in case you're not connected to sewer?
I'm sure you've already thought of these things, but to me it would be like trying to justify a waterbed in a bus.

And yes there are Fiberglass reproductions of all Claw-foot tubs. But on those suggest full platform bottom instead of the feet. Plumbing on any is not hard just have to be careful not to scratch the chrome or nickle or Gold. I generally wrap the pipe with a rag first and use cresents when possible. Under floor Pex fittings with Pex or Sharkbite pipe to hook in.
Shower heads, they make water diverters in many shapes and sizes. 2,3,4 ways and you hook to them with the heads you got. Suggest Rubber plug for drain. You can put a hand actuator with the lever but in those days those were not always available and always need cleaning from hair etc. ;D

Holding tanks and fresh water tanks are plenty large enough, the MCI DL is built on a frame not like the older MCI where you had the structural in the siding there is plenty of support for her with the tub and the 50 gals of water it is not like she going to use it every day  ::) I hope

Only problem with claw foots with showers is no matter what you do there will be some water that gets out and will always have to be wiped up.

And don't forget the headroom you will eat up with those 3-4" claw feet and that you have to "step up" to get in which becomes more of a problem getting out of the tub when you get old(er). And dont forget the handicap railing to hold onto. When you get to be my age, you need to consider these things Cliff.

Clifford and Dave, as for the weight, a solid piece of wood, a 4' length, under the center of the tub will distribute the weight and also the pressures of movement, to the feet, tom...

Or how about mounting the piece of wood to a hindge in the middle of the center of gravity and when you are driving down the road it will be like a wave pool and she will think she is at the ocean?

How long do you stay in a tub?
Title: Re: Claw Foot Bath Tub
Post by: sledhead on November 28, 2016, 11:22:03 AM
when I put the plug in the tub and have a navy shower there is usually about 1.5 " -2 " in the tub
and have a regular shower there is about 2 " -3 "  in the tub
  this is on a 48" x 27 " bath tub

now with my wife and her bath she uses 3 " - 4 " if we use it dry camping
and    4 " - 8 " when on the tap           both before she gets in the tub
we can go a good week on a full tank of water if we both use the shower ( for me ) and the tub for her  every day

as for how long she is in the tub ? don't ask

we have done this for years and if we want to conserve water we can go 2 weeks on a tank easy

this was in the M C I  tank size is 100 US gal.

the featherlite has a 150 US gal. tank  ( and the same size tub ) so 50 % longer between fills ? nice thing with the featherlite is it has a auto fill system on the water supply .  but we have not used the featherlite that much yet

Yeah, Gary, when you see Clifford walking down the shoulder of the road, you can stop and give him a ride!
