Title: Replacement belt
Post by: Lin on November 01, 2016, 03:14:47 PM
Scott's recent belt failure motivated me to check on my spare.  Good thing!  I am currently running a Gates CX 106--that's a cogged belt with a 110 inch outside length.  My spare is a Gates C105-- that's a standard surface belt with a 109 inch outside diameter.  I think that Don F. replace my C105 with the CX 106 when we did the transmission.  It probably needed a longer belt when the engine was slightly re-positioned.  Without thinking it through, I must have just saved the old belt as a spare.  If I ever needed it, it would probably be short.

Anyway, I know that I need to get a new spare but wondered if there was really any advantage in our application to buy the cogged belt over the standard one?  Also, if anyone wants the C105, you can have it for the cost of the mailer.

I wouldn't use a cogged belt if you can find a solid one. I like the ones that are wrapped with fabric the whole way round. They are used a lot on mower decks and hold up better than any other type.
