I am going to Puerto Vallarta for my annual vacation to practice relaxing by laying on the beach and drinking Margaritas. I will be there from October 24 - 31. I am looking for someone in the Puerto Vallarta area that has a bus conversion that I can visit that speaks English so I can discuss some of the differences between US bus conversion travel and MX bus conversion travel. I've never seen a bus conversion in all my travels in MX. Maybe they exist, but they're certainly few and far between. A member of this forum is converting a Dina Olimpico, but he lives north of Mexico City, nowhere near PV.

We've travelled a lot in Mexico, with the bus and with a fifth wheel. Not only have I never seen a Mexican bus conversion I can't remember meeting a Mexican RV traveller either. Maybe we saw one somewhere but I sure can't remember it. Our old friend Jorge told us that Mexicans RV in the summer - they think its too cold in their winter. I don't know where October fits in that equation - maybe its still summer so your experience may be different than ours.
If I was going to look for Mexican RVs in the PV area I'd go north along the coast - Punta Mita, Sayulita, Guayabitos have some RV campgrounds that appear to have seasonal sites so someone in one of those locations might be able to help you. Going south you'd have to get as far as Perula, Tenacatita or Barra to get to similar spots. I'm biased but I'd get out of PV as fast as I could so driving north and south along the coast would just be a bonus. I'm taking an oldster friend to Mazatlan and then driving north along the coast in Feb so I'll keep an eye out for Mexican RVs but I wouldn't hold out much hope for finding one.

I believe that was Dr. Steve and pops up every so often and yes is on these boards so should be in members list. He might know someone down there that has one.

Most Mexicans simply do not have 'disposable income' - paying for little frivolous inconsequentialities such as food and clothing and a roof over their head doesn't leave them much. The wealthier middle class are being squeezed by taxation and an uncertain future (sound familiar?), and they prefer to put their money into less ostentatious signs of their relative wealth. The very rich have no reason to be occupied by something as proletarian as a bus, converted or otherwise. Add to this the paucity of RV parks and resorts, and the lack of public land available for free camping such as this country's BLM resources.
I could say more on this subject, but I will leave it at that.

Bus conversions take up a lot of space - space in RV parks and space at home. We know several Mexican families who could be considered "middle class" or even "upper middle class". None of them have anywhere near enough room at home to store a bus conversion let alone work on one. My F350 is a major parking challenge when we visit - a bus would be flat out of the question.
Just to let you all know, we have several subscribers in Mexico and many have conversions. However we don't have any in PVR. So some folks do travel by bus down there, but not usually the high end buses.
