Our old mci 9 weighed in at around 32,500 lbs give or take. Our 102C3 just got stalled last night and she's a svelte 38,000 lbs with full fuel and full 150 gallon fresh tank. Front axle is carrying 11,540 lbs of that. Does this sound too heavy for an 8v92ta? I am also towing my 6,000 lb land cruiser toad.

You front axel is "rated" at 12K, so your good to go there, the 8V92 has nothing to do with it weight is weight, it doesnt care from what.>>>Dan (The Land Cruiser also is no concern other than stopping, what are you using for supplimental braking?)
Since that engine was used to haul 80,000 or more in older semi's, I think you'll be good to go.
I think the 8V92 is lots happier in a 40,000# motor home than in a 80,000# semi.
Just don't let it overheat or the fluids mix :o
Ok so it shouldn't be the reason we had trouble getting up a steep steep hill to the doubletree Hilton in Gatlinburg tn

What is the GVW on a "C" it should be close to the 40ft D which is 46,000# my front axle is rated for 14,400 #.You need to check your engine 500 hp is 100 hp more than MCI set the 8v92 when new
Ok. Just ruling out all causes. I have the plate somewhere in Michigan sitting in my enclosed trailer. If anyone knows the GVWR on. 102C3 id love to hear. Fully wet I should be around 44,000 lbs total coach AND toad.

According to the MCI manual dated Jan 1989 the MCI 102C 3 net weight is 27,250 lbs, payload capacity 12, 750 lbs and the gross vehicle weight listed as 40,000 lbs
Does not list GCVW
LOL and he has to deduct for 24.5 tires
I did notice the book said 12,750 lbs ( serviced )
No mention of whether it had the optional 35 gallon tank :)
does this help in comparison
I thought it had a 14,000# front axle and you can add weight to the tag axle,my tag is 12,000# at 95 psi with 12R/22.5 tires,I reduced my tag to 11,000 # which lighten my front axle weight by 700# I was real close on the front axle

LOL. Clifford. You have no idea how much weight we could stuff in those two front bays. Most of the time we didn't have a single pound to spare on the GVWR.
I had my 102C3 weighed and this is what it looked like. I hope the picture shows, if not I will try again

John, they will be stuffed again I removed the auxiliary to give her more room lol and besides 190 gals in 1 fuel tank is enough for me.Removing the tank sure open the bay up

Good grief. I loved that aux tank. We could roll all day without stopping. It does make sense, since you are retired and not traveling on a tight schedule ;D.

Hi Jack,
It looks like your tag axle is running a little light. You may want to consider adjusting the air pressure regulators to the factory spec (on my 96a3 I believe it is 35 psi). You should be closer to 5,000 lbs on the tag axle.

Did that a long time ago, but haven't gotten a new weight.

Good deal! Glad you got that done.
Ok so I'm 25,710 combined drive and tag axles. And I'm 11,540 front axle. That's with full fuel and about 50 gallons of water. I have a 150 gallon freshwater tank so I just did the math and came up with 38,000. But with my fresh tank at 50 gallons I weighed in at 37,250. Comparing that to what I'm reading here, this seems acceptable. I'll have to scale the tag axles to see if I need to make some pressure adjustments back there. We have an insulated double floor (heavy) and a fully tiled shower with a mortar pan (heavy) a house fridge Samsung and Samsung front loader washer and dryer house sized (heavy heavy) and a house Gas range and microwave and two bathrooms. Two toilets etc etc. we have a 40 gallon water heater, apartment sized 40,000 BTU Goodman furnace, several Sheetrock interior walls, plus the interior is entirely lined with 3/4" knotty pine. So I shan't complain I guess. Everything is relative.

I wouldn't worry your axle limit on a C is 42,400 lbs
Ok. Then...worry stops here. Until the next thing.

And the next thing is:
Make sure you adjust your tire pressures to handle the weight they're carrying! Consult your tire manufacturer's website for the inflation tables for your tire size, add about 200 lbs/tire's weight for "stuff", then adjust accordingly.
After you do that, I'll get Shanks to suggest something else for you to worry about!
FWIW & HTH. . .
;)
