Title: Question about Series 60 14L
Post by: paul102a3 on September 22, 2016, 03:20:37 PM
I am considering the purchase of a coach that has a series 60 14L rated at 515 HP. I am not sure if the motor is a 2010 or 2011 but I suspect it is 2010. The motor has just under 50,000 miles total on it since new.

Are there any known issues with this version of the series 60 or is it something I should stay away from? Our last coach had the 12.7 series 60 and ran with no issues until we sold the coach a couple of years ago.

Thanks in advance.

2010 was the last year for the Series 60 in over the road use. Series 60 is still being manufactured, but for marine and off road use. Being a 2010 it will have a particulate trap. Make sure the trap has been serviced and cleaned before buying. That will save you around $1,000 down the road. Series 60 is just about the best electronic engine ever made. Good Luck, TomC

Things can happen Gary's 2010 Prevost has lost 2- 14L series 60 engine the 1st time it cooked the #5 and 6 cylinders 16,000 miles later the turbo turned loose and went through the engine, this last time WW Williams just installed him a new engine fwiw his bus only has 72,000 miles total

Thanks for the info.

Turns out the owner was a little off on the year. The engine and chassis is a 2008 with 41,000 miles on it although the motorcoach is titled as a 2011. No DEF or particulate filter. The EGR system and turbo was replaced/updated to the latest specs last year and has only a few miles on it since the update.

Owner is getting more information as to what exactly was done to the engine.

That is a $8500.00 upgrade ,if you lug a 14L and the EGT goes up they will break the center section of the exhaust manifold as fast as you can install one and they are not cheap fwiw the school here broke 4 before the drivers finally got it through their heads you could not lug the engine
