Title: Aquahot Webasto quit
Post by: gumpy on September 18, 2016, 07:27:12 PM
Camping this weekend. I started Aquahot diesel burner for a bit of heat at night. It ran for about 3 minutes and abruptly stopped. It now won't start. When I turn it on, it doesn nothing (supposed to start the fan). After about 30 seconds, there's a buzzing sound, which I think is probably the spark igniters.

I checked all the fuses and voltages on the outside. I can hear a relay in the control box clicking.

Has anyone had anything similar happen with a webasto burner?

Change the nozzle lately?  Clean the igniters lately?  Fuel filter been changed?  Clean the flame eye?  Fan should start regardless of these though.

Figure I'd give you something to ponder til expert help arrives.

It seems when something in our coach just quits it turns out to be a fuse.  ;D

That is why I carry 8 penny nails cut to the length of a fuse to replace each fuse after the blow more than once. That seems to solve the problem every time.

Just kidding, DON'T try this at home!!!

I talked to LLoyd. He gave me some ideas. I'll be digging into that today or tomorrow.

I have heat again!

Thank you for the suggestion to call Lloyd. He was a great help. Ultimately, I found a cracked solder joint on one relay on the control board, and several others that were suspect. Cleaned and resoldered them and my AquaHot is back in business.

And I saved $900!  That's what a new control board costs! Amazing! After I fixed it, I called him back to thank him and let him know it was working and what I found. He said he has a guy that rebuilds them for him, and he told him that quite often the problem is just a cracked solder joint! And I thought Germany was known for quality engineering.

So, for those of you with Webasto or Aquahot systems, I highly recommend Lloyd for service and advice. He said he is an authorized service dealer for Webasto and has all the parts. Well, he has all the parts Webasto sells. They don't sell the damn O-ring in the fuel pump that leaks!!
