I had recently switched from Delo 100 to Delvac 1240. In going through my stock, I find that I have 3 gallons of Delo 100 left. Can I use that to top off the Delvac should I need it?
Yes,, they are compatible.>>>Dan

No sell the Delo 100 and buy the Delvac you have the Cadillac of oils

you can mix tractor supply oil or Walmart oil or Rotella or whatever.
Delvac is not magic :)
::) :o ::) :o ??? ??? ??? ::) :o ::) :o ::)
Pour what ever you choose Lin then watch your oil consumption go up
Cliff, as mentioned in an earlier thread, my oil consumption dropped significantly when I did the change, so I assume that using the Delo will increase it somewhat. However, I just find it hard to toss 3 gallons of new oil. I thought that if they are compatible, I could let the engine burn through them. Maybe someone on Craigslist would want them.
I recently changed from straight delo 100 40 wt to the Canadian Walmart straight 40 wt CF2 - 5 gal & Lucas full synthetic oil stabilizer - 1 gal which puts it right to the full mark on the dipstick. I added five quarts of delo 100 40 wt after 4800 miles to bring it back to full on the dipstick. Best (least) oil consumption our coach has shown us in many years and better oil pressure across all rpms... Go figure! Some Canada Walmarts sell the Cf2 oil in 5 gal pails for $58.
Come on USA, catch up already!
Thread drift alert: anything wrong with 50 weight?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
After this last week most of any excess oil we had is on the front of RJ's Bus from caravaning up to the Washington Rally. Sorry Russ at least it won't rust. ;D :o
Dave5Cs
Nothing wrong with 50 wt, as clarences increase & oil pressure decreases 50wt becomes an option. Don't think our engine is there yet.
Read the book DD calls for 50w in certain conditions like the temp of 100*+ we get here in AZ I have a couple of generators I look after that run around 200* and it calls for 50W too
Harley Davidson's have been using 50 and 60 weight oils way way before Detroit two strokes..>>>Dan
You all got me thinking ... What would be the minimum temp you'd run 50 in DC? Got a block heater anyway. Just wondering.

Delo 100 has less ash content than Delvac, it's good enough to keep for adding. Yes, Delvac 1240 is good, but I don't know about it being the Cadillac of oils. If it was really that good it might be better to say it was the Mercedes Benz of oils. ;D

LOL you don't see the Detroit name or spinning arrows on Delo 100, Mercedes Benz of oils will work

I've been using the Canadian Walmart straight 40 oil for nearly 10 years now with no problems and very little consumption. I think more of it leaks than burns, and that's not a lot.
Don
I can get the delvac 1240 at ww Williams for $12 a gallon so I generally run that in my coaches. That being said, I wouldn't mind seeing a little less leakage so if I can find a two stroke compatible 50 weight, I'd like to try it out. I can't tell for sure though in my online research so far which 50 weight is safe to run in my 8v92.

? why not just fix the leaks ;D
Don 10 years is a long time between oil changes. :o
Scott you use Delvac 1240 but you can't go up hill!... ::)
You guys need to change something there. Just sayin ;D
Dave5Cs
I also use walmart 40 weight oil. Each year on a trip to bridgewater NS I buy a pail for my yearly oil change. Been doing this for at least
15 years. Well over 200k miles on 8V71 lefty still running strong. I treat consumption like fuel, when it needs some, add. Use 30 weight
walmart USA to top up. Enjoy 06 Bill

That just about made me choke on my coffee! I hope you know that I meant it used more than a few fresh pails over that decade but always the Walmart stuff.

It is if you own stock in it, LOL ;) eh Clifford HA hA
Oil thread ... is it popcorn time yet????
Bruce I just put in the Butter to melt....... ;D
Walmart 40w is also my oil of choice. I always carry a pail with me (just in case), plus several more gallon jugs. I did use all of that one year heading home from AZ to Canada. A couple of the Allen screws that are supposed to be in the intake manifold had been replaced by dabs of silicone! (not by me!) The silicone eventually blew out, and the oil flowed! I had to add about 1 gallon every 2 hours driving to keep it full. I could not tell where it was coming from, but engine was still running well, so I topped off and drove. Many times. Travelling across Montana at the time on Sunday. No service shops anywhere close. Made it home eventually with a very, VERY, "VERY" dirty toad.
Pulled the powertrain that summer to switch to automatic transmission and found the missing plugs waaay at the back of the engine. No way would I ever have found those holes without pulling the engine.
Dave, this is true. I think the delvac will miraculously over time give my coach more power.
Cliff, why fix the leaks? If I can just pour 120 weight gear lube into my engine and the leaking stops, I'm good right? :-)

Walmart 40W works good for me too. Maybe they get it from Mobil?
JC
The only possible downside I can think of for mixing different brands of oil is when you have an oil analysis done - which oil is then used for the baseline values? Or do different oils have essentially identical additive packages? I have mostly Conoco-Phillips 76 T5X straight 40-weight in my engine now, but I've topped up with some Delo 100, and I also recently bought a gallon of Shell Rotella T. I plan on having another analysis done soon - I hope my mongrel oil doesn't confuse things.
John
It will only screw up the Zinc and phosphorus readings BTDT
You won't have to worry about that much longer, the present guvment is doing it's best to remove it!.>>>Dan

Shell will work, but it has 1% ash content, which is higher than Delvac 1240 or Delo 100, and it will not make Cliff happy.

I don't care one way or the other what he uses it's his engine, lol you guys only look at the ash content ;D
believe this..not all oil blenders make their own additive package...they buy it.
to my knowledge there are only two oil labels making/selling same.
Guess who they are :)
It's CF and CF2 rated. And Cliff, I very much look up to your advice here. So don't discount it :)

Thanks Scott, the only thing I don't care for with the Shell Rotella it all it says about the oil is it "suitable" for older turbo charged and non turbo engines.
I never got into a 2 stroke engine that used only Rottela so good or bad I don't know, but it couldn't be any worse than the Delo 100
I see the 15/40 Amsoil has a CF-2 rating no way I have a 92 series in the shop now a guy bought into the synthetic hipe
I have used Shell Rotella 40 weight for 20 years in my coaches because I could buy it for about $300 a 55 Gal barrel from a oil dealer that was very close by (but is now gone), with no ill effects. But, with Cliff's good experience with Delvac 1240, I will get that when my barrels run out.

Yes, and the drums are mine to keep! It was a place within walking distance with a relocation sale.
