I have now had my bus for 10 years. 90% of the conversion was done from April through September 2006 and the remaining was done the following summer.
Anyhow, I finally shaved the rivets after 10 years two weekends ago. I decided just over two weeks that I really needed to get this done and ordered the $190 tool which arrived on Saturday. I had the rivets all shaved by Tuesday evening. Are you supposed to shave the entire head of the rivet, or just enough to get rid of the stem? I only did enough to get rid of the stem, but I could make a second pass.
I just shaved till the stems disappeared. Yeah, tbe tool is expensive but sure beats bucking solid rivets. I replaced the panel across below windshield 2 years ago. Turned out great. I have some more to do when I get around to it. Used a Harbor Freight air riveter to set them.
Clip the stem close the rivet head. Shave flush with contour of the head (that's why the tool is contoured).
The rivet shaving tool is fully adjustable. You could grind off just the stem, or you could end up shaving the entire rivet head which means the head would be thinner. I only removed just the stem and a tiny bit more. I gouged the head on few of the rivets because I didn't start the drill before making contact. (Yes, I cut off all the stems before shaving them. I tried one without and it took a lot longer and probably would have dulled the cutter if I did that 1,000+ times.)

where'd you buy your shaver ?
model # ?
I bought my rivet shaver on Ebay. A company was selling it there for $199.99 with free shipping. The company also had a promotion where if you buy a total of $200 in items from them on Ebay you get $20 off so I added a $2.99 light bezel that was the cheapest thing on the list. Model HS310-6B. This is the one for 3/16" and 1/4" rivets.
Got mine from Byler Rivet.

I got my rivets from Byler back in 2006, but I called them a bit over two weeks ago and they wanted $265 for the shaver. I was willing to pay a little more to get it from Byler, but not $65 more.
