If it is an electronic engine, you'll have to hook up to a readout computer to see what the engine is set to. If it is a mechanical engine, pull one of the valve covers (2 bolts) and read what the round tag on one of the injectors says-we can give you horsepower from that. Good Luck, TomC

It's a 1982 model 450hp with 1250 ft lbs of torque @ 1300 rpm with 9A90 injectors fwiw but that has likely changed over the years,9G90 injectors take it to 475 hp
Title: Also Cams, Timing, Pistons, Rods, Turbo, Intercooler, Governor, Etc. ...?
Post by: HB of CJ on August 16, 2016, 01:40:30 PM
To be sure, would a check on the cams, pistons, rods, timing, turbo, intercooler, governor settings, etc., etc., be necessary to absolutely know?  And how much digging around on the insides of the mill would that indicate?

Sometimes strange things happen with a suspect rebuild?  But then one would probably, (most likely) need to buy it first?  Also some would not be happy or sure until they did a detail tear down to look, see, mike and verify.

It gets worserer.  Then the mill would need new seals, gaskets, probably new blower seals, new injector tips, rings, valve job and turbo seals while it is all apart.  Fun for some.  Not fun for others.  Yikes indeed!  Respectfully.

Edited added:  I forgot to mention rod and main bearings.  :)

The 87 serial number would have started at 116454

thank you very much.
1987 MCI 102A3 8v92ta, automatic trans ht740
Engine has the double oil cooler.
I think the bus came spent it time in Colorado and Idaho. It has a vehicle inspection from 1998 with Colorado charter company listed as performing the inspection. Was last owned by mid Columbia charter.
They sold it in 2010 to Northwest bus sales.
What happen between 2010 and 2016? I was told it sat in storage.
Having some problems with dmv out here in california about the title being signed over 6 years ago.

So I have been looking at getting a 1991 setra 215 hdh with a 60 series or a 1994 MCI d with a 60 series.
The world of owning a bus.

You don't know what you have till you tear it apart.  102" liner ports, 100 AR turbo, federal cams are part of the mix for 500 HP.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure SETRA didn't start using the 60 Series until 1992!

I'd be very cautious with that one too!

Also FWIW I have a 1995 Setra S215 HDH w/60 series Allison B500 NEW radiator core and 1 brand new alt! I'd take $7500
;D  BK  ;D
PS I have lots of spare Setra parts, and manuals that are negotiable with that unit too! I've owned 9 Setra's over the years and worked on many other peoples too!
