Nat'l Interstate isn't doing buses anymore. After ten years I jumped over to Blue Sky. Now they want a 35% inc in premium for no changes on my end this year. My auto/house co. is Nationwide , they told me today they do nothing over 35 feet. Any suggestions.
If you are trying to get collision coverage, good luck. FMCA used to list Alexander and Alexander. I have Nationwide through one of their subsidiaries.

Every thing we have is through American Family now since we been AMF for 30 years, I did not they would insure a bus but she had no problem writing the policy.
I just took the basic $50.000.00 replacement offered till I get finished then I upgrade with a appraisal if I choose to.
Full coverage collision and glass, 300/500/300 liability coverage with $1000.00 deductible it cost me $583.99 per year.
I was surprised Progressive quoted me $1600.00 with 100/300/100 liability and no glass coverage and wanted a stack of photos

i pay Progressive just a pinch under $900. but I have 100$ deductible on comp and Full-timer liability too. case my dog bites you...or you fall off my roof..
Dirtball; Give Good Sam a try .Don't know what their policy is on buses, but I think as long as it is registered as an RV you shouldn't have a problem.

Most important part about any insurance is their paying of the claim if you ever need it, I don't think either Progressive or State Farm get rave reviews. I know Progressive shafted me on 2 windshields on the Trek I paid more than they did
That's the real test of coverage - what they do when there is a real claim. Do they wiggle out, or do they take care of you in a fair way?
We use American Adventure...a subsidiary of Progressive here in California. About $900 for the year...full coverage and no deductible as I recall. We did have to send a few pics to prove it had been motorhomed and give an estimated overall value. Talk to Hunter and tell him you're an Oakland A's fan:) That's his sweet spot.
Hi DirtBall,
First get it registered as a motor home.
Then State Farm will take it on.
Get photos of the inside and outside when you talk with them.
They may still need to see it in person.
That's how I did it in PA and in TX.
good luck.

I had Progressive liability only on my bus. Got a letter we're canceling you because the NC insurance Comm pulled some bonehead stunt against us. That's it -- no chance for asking us to change our mind. I went to Statd Farm. They wanted photos but they covered my bus.
I insured mine with Triple A because I had auto insurance with them. I put that I would only drive it 500 miles per year because it is still being worked on and it is only liability. Of course they didn't have MCI in their system but the lady there got the paperwork done. Best part was my insurance went down $12... they literally gave me a check to insure the bus!
Maybe they will find out it is a bus someday and cut me... but I am gettin it while the gettin is good ;D

I'm sorry but I have never understood this attitude. What I hear you saying is "I tricked them into cashing my cheque". I've never had any trouble getting an insurer to cash my cheque but I have on more than one occasion had trouble getting the SOBs to fully pay a legitimate claim. If it was me I'd get it in writing that the insurance is for a [insert brand here] bus which has been converted for use as an RV by [insert converter name here]. Until I had that 100% in writing I wouldn't give them 5 cents.

Dirtball gets the Bus Bulletin name of the month award for sure!

I hear you. As I said, I don't really drive the coach as it is still under construction. Roof raise done, skin on the side and finishing up insulating now. When it comes time to put some miles on it I will revisit the insurance. I don't feel that I tricked them however, I gave them all the information they requested and then some. When I walked away they gave me a check and an insurance card... I wasn't going to argue to much!
On another note, Triple A are also the ones who inspected the coach so that I could register it as a motorhome (prior to demolition)... you would think they would know what they were getting into?
Safeco for all.

Who is the underwriter for your AAA insurance on buses they usually write you up on Progressive.AAA is only a agent owned by the Mielak's not a insurance co we had it for a couple of years on the Eagle written through Progressive
Well it is done. That was way less painless than in the past. State Farm $885/yr with max limits and $150,000 replacement cost. I did try an online Progressive quote and got a $900/yr premium. I phone Progressive just to make sure that all was good due to me having to check off "Other" twice, once for manufacturer and once for type of RV.
I paid an extra $30 for 1M in medical coverage instead of zero , cause I now have "crappy" health insurance (if I leave the network) vs my good old Blue Cross I had for 25 years.
SO in summary I was with National Interstate for over 10 years, they stopped insuring bus conversions, the broker signed me with Blue Sky last year for $1200/yr (max benefits). Then at this years renewal Blue Sky wanted $1800/yr.
So State Farm it is, and the local agent insures my rental apartments and my life . I am happy to help him get his piece of the pie.
Thanks for all the input folks. Drive Safe !!!!!
