Title: Upgrading tire sizes, need a little assistance from those that know their stuff
Post by: Gary LaBombard on July 29, 2016, 05:55:32 PM
He guys,
I need a little information to help me decide about the following.  I have 11R/22.5 tires now on my bus or when I put them back on.  I can get a deal on getting newer tires and rims but they are 11R/24.5.  Will I be able to just bolt these babies on and be good to go?  The new rims will be aluminum so I also know I need to put in new longer studs but I am concerned about the id of the rims bolting onto my existing wheel assembly.  Let me know asap so I can get this out of my mind.  Thanks ahead of time.
Gary

It's not a problem Gary they bolt up the same if both are stud pilot , your speedometer is going to be off and you lose a little power with your 8v71 you will be fine. You just need longer studs on the boogie and the steer axle unless you run Alcoa's on the inside dual  then you need to change those also

Since you know about the proper stud length issue, there is no problem switching except that your tire diameter and revs per mile will change. I have had 12R/22.5 and 11R/24.5 on the same Eagle axles, both sizes were used over the years.

RPM for tire size- 11R-22.5=500rpm, 12R-22.5 and 315/80R-22.5=485rpm, 11R-24.5=475rpm.  If you have 12R-22.5 AND 11R-24.5 on the drive axle, they are mis matched RPM wise. Good Luck, TomC
