Title: BUS CONVERSION FEATURED ON TINY HOUSE HUNTERS MONDAY NIGHT
Post by: castingnicki on July 28, 2016, 11:58:42 AM
Be sure to check out Tiny House Hunters on HGTV Monday night to see a bus conversion in the OC!

http://www.hgtv.com/shows/tiny-house-hunters/episodes/a-growing-family-looks-for-a-mobile-tiny-house-in-fullerton-ca (http://www.hgtv.com/shows/tiny-house-hunters/episodes/a-growing-family-looks-for-a-mobile-tiny-house-in-fullerton-ca)

With three young children, and one more on the way, parents Rob and Robin are looking for a moveable tiny house in Fullerton, CA. They're about to embark on the adventure of a lifetime and travel the country with their family, but finding a moveable tiny house with space for a family of six isn't going to be easy. They're hoping to find a transportable tiny house with separate sleeping spaces for the kids, a full bathroom, and the ability to go off-grid, but with a budget of $33,000 will they be able to find the perfect home?

We are still casting for Season 4!  If anyone is thinking about going tiny in a bus conversion please email me at nicki_marshall@pietown.tv

Cheers!  :D

Sounds like a brewing disaster, cramming a pregnant woman with three kids in a under $33,000 conversion. Full bathroom, hah. Starts out in Tiny House, ends up in Divorce Court.

If you stop and think about it, a tiny house ain't any bigger than a tiny bus. You can up and move the bus. ;D

I have watched this show a few times, and my opinion is these people are nuts who want a trailer "tiny house".  Maybe okay if you are not going anywhere far, but the constructers don't seem to obey road restrictions like how wide their little house is. Plus looking at the inside shelving they are not prepared to travel on a bumpy road, or pay attention to all their roof shingles, etc. blowing off.  Definitely not aerodynamic.

Stupid show, considering you can do a lot more with a bus conversion.

Many of the ideas are impractical and not workable. It reminds me of the crackpot ideas that were published in Mother Earth News decades ago that seemed interesting at first, but after careful examination, had serious flaws and hazards (like using methane gas from manure digester tanks to power generators - highly corrosive). Little houses going down the road is in the same vein. Depending on how this show with a bus conversion goes, it might help bring new interest in conversions (which are aerodynamic) to the current generation.

i Believe it happened because of a few things coming together. 1-the housing and bank crash in 2005-2008, 2-A lot of building Contractors have less projects to bid on. They figured they were going to make a killing on this fade until the TV people started putting it out there and then everybody started doing it and as usual the market will be overbuilt and ultimately there will be people trying to get tiny houses off their properties, 3- Millennials living with their parents not being able to afford the outrageous prices of homes on the market and not being saddled with payments for the rest of their lives if they do have money. As they say in the shows most want work less and enjoy life. IMHO ( yes I am a retired Contractor) ;D

Well, I just watched this show with an open mind, but what a disappointment! The bus in question is an undisclosed brand school bus, probably with a gas engine, possibly painted with a roller, that had an asking price of $20,000. The young impressionable couple got them down to $19,000, but I think it was worth more like in the $4,000 to $9,000 range (optimistically). I saw one air conditioner on the roof, but no sign of a generator. That family will be sweating on down the road. It had a bathtub with a shower wand. The tub was a small galvanized wash tub that you stand in to shower. I know "schoolies" fill a need for cheap camping travel, but, wow. There are real bus conversions selling for less that are much better equipped.  :-\

Not everyone has what you have.
Not everyone wants what you have.
Not everyone needs what you have.

True, but my main point is that the young couple paid too much for that bus, and there are many better equipped conversions out there selling for less.

Very nice, thanks for the post Nicki!

A lot of great ideas & experience on this forum for the mobile tiny home builders to consider.

We arrived a couple of days ago in Colorado Springs w/our bus and are looking forward to hopefully meeting you at the jamboree.  We'll be setting up Thursday.

Kind Regards, Phil
