Title: virtual buses(funny abstract)
Post by: CrabbyMilton on July 14, 2016, 01:04:15 PM
Everybody is talking about this new mobile app called POKEMON GO. I don't know much about it only what I hear on the news and talk shows. You use this app. which is a combination of mapping and a game. The object is to find these different characters and you can also plant them in all kinds of places for others to find them. When you find them, they show up on your phone in the picture. Sounds like a virtual treasure hunt or some such thing.
I would be fun to apply this concept to buses. Planting buses in parks, in the middle of downtown, or your own driveway for other bus nuts to find. I don't have the slightest bit of knowledge to develop an app. but it does sound interesting.

I would pay the developer of that app if they could make it so kids clean their room to find hidden Pokemons, or load the dishwasher and find one at the bottom of the now empty sink, or find one on top of their covers after they make their bed.

Wishful thinking I guess :D :D :D

Steve, wouldn't that be rich!

Unfortunately, here locally, POKEYMON GO has resulted in two arrests for trespassing and one unfortunate three day hold as a 5150--cracks me up what we adults consider fun.  Jack

Same up North here Jack. Some kids were watching their phones and playing this game when some older kids caught up to them in a park. They took their phones , car keys, and wallets and left in the other kids car. The people just are not paying attention. Then they don't even get that companies are use the game to follow where they are and everything they do so they can again like Fakebook and the rest are marketing to them and some sell their info to other companies with these apps.

Not even churches and cemeteries are exempt from this. Arlington National is discouraging people from visiting if they are playing this game in that people are doing so and not showing respect for what the purpose of a cemetery is. Other cemeteries actually welcome such people as long as they are respectful in doing so. Many churches have reported people on their phones finding these things at church obviously paying little attention to the service. Some churches state to the effect that if it gets people to come to church that's a good thing. I go to worship God and hear the gospel of Jesus Christ not play some game. I do see little kids on their tablets during the sermon at times. I'm now under the impression that these virtual characters are placed at random so perhaps some of you people who have your buses parked for an extended time, might have one of these things running around or inside your bus. So if you see younger people walking around with their phones bumping into things, they are likely playing this game.
Scary thing is people playing it while driving of riding bikes.

The world is going to crap. For those of us that are say 60 and older, we are going to get out before it becomes to much. I feel sorry for the young ones. I wish them the best of luck.

I'm 51 and I agree but I don't blame technology. I would imagine there's some old crank out there that would contend that the world went bad when TV starting broadcasting in color, put buttons on phones, or putting those automatic transmission gizmos, power steering, and aluminum wheels on buses.
No it's a human condition and blaming products and technology is just an excuse for bad parenting.

Dinosaurs were on Earth for about 135 million years, and disappeared about 66 million years ago. Man has been around for about 200,000 years with being in modern societies for about 6,000 years. The industrial revolution started about 150 years ago-of which we've used up lots of our natural resources.
I'm glad I grew up when I did. I hope the best for the younger generations. Good Luck, TomC

One good thing about this latest craze is that they are now exercising their legs as well as their thumbs. Let's just hope they don't wander in front of our buses. Does anyone else remember the Davy Crockett craze where every kid wanted a coon skin hat, and a lot of profit was made selling them? Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Lone Ranger, etc.?

All true - but to put it in context, I'm reading a book written in 1810 at the moment which says just the same things (as well as panicking about worsening crime, the fall in moral standards, and severe over-population)

Can't rule it out but they can use any map for that.
