Title: Update photos of our 102C3 project
Post by: Scott & Heather on July 11, 2016, 03:41:20 AM
We are moving as fast as we can 16 hour days while still trying to keep the quality level of the conversion high. This coach is light years ahead of our old coach in terms of our layout and finish work. A friend volunteered to move my air brake and trans touch pad to the other side of the drivers seat yesterday. So glad that's done. Working on plumbing and electrical this week. Hoping to wrap it all up by end of week and move on to body work in prep for our painter. We are headed to Curaçao for a week for a wedding so that will slow us down a bit but it is what it is. Nice progress. I agree with you on the relocation of the transmission/air brake controls. As long as "R" is still for "Race" it's all good. Cup holders can go in another place.

nice work, you two! looks like it will be so comfortable. did your friend run across the wire/color schematic for the rocker switches forward of the cup holder? hoping you two and your baby are well, tom, lvmci...

No. No wire schematic. That panel needs the wiring completely re done. That will come later. For now everything works and I just need to get on the road . RJ, the Connie lane address is good :)

That looks like a shallow well pump. How you gonna prime it?

In our last conversion (MC9) we lived in it for 5 years fulltime. I installed a shallow well jet pump it in and absolutely loved it. quiet, house pressure and flow, and super reliable. The only time I had an issue with it was when it froze. Oops. Anyway, that's a jet pump. Mount it to the ceiling because I have two 150 gallon holding tanks and a 40 gallon water heater in that bay...along with my hose reel and a power cord reel. So no room anywhere else. Priming it is easy peasy. Open the valve to the water pump line when you're connected to city water at the hose, then just unscrew the tiny airbleed thumbscrew and it's primed. Only have to do it maybe once a year when I accidentally run the pump dry out of freshwater. Also, my floor is insulated so well, I can't hear the pump at all from the inside of the coach...that's kinda an issue because I like to know when it's running. If I keep hearing it kick on and off periodically, I know to check for a leak somewhere...Bob, Emma isn't in the photos because my in laws are watching her here at the house while we work on the coach in the backyard. Our backs are against the wall on this conversion. We absolutely have to finish it in the next 3 to 4 weeks...yikes. Painter flies in August 7...

Try hooking up an indicator light to tell you when the pump is on - after everything else is done and you are on the road.

with all the spray foam you did why not add 3/4 " tin foil foam board , 1/4 " ply  on top of the bay floor to help keep it warm  ????  it will help a lot

Howdy from central Oregon....Could you possibly give me a call when you can I have a question about that panel forward of your gear indicator (by your left arm when sitting in the seat) I just picked up a 1988 102A3 and they put a alum panel over that and I could use some information on it...Thank you in advance   Doug   541-591-1781

Thank Jim.

More....tank fittings going in.
Bought a 240 volt dual element 40 gallon water heater that fits in the luggage bay...and swapped out both 240 volt elements and thermostats with 2000 watt 120 volt versions and running two sets of wiring to the two different elements and back to the panel with two separate 20 amp breakers. More shower happenings...

Title: Re: Update photos of our 102C3 project
Post by: brmax on July 19, 2016, 09:09:17 AM
I'm not sure Jim but many fittings can be picked up at Ag supplys stores in my area.
The one I see Scott installing has a Banjo branding made in the middle gods country ;) you all cannot make everything in the great north ::)

What I have been finding lately looking at tank mfg's  is they have a tight web.
As in searching and looking at their sites the contacts and listed locations for themselves are several states is what I'm finding anyhow, so they work very close or are something.

I been saving to favorites many folders in these build interest items

good day

Been crazy. Ordered tank fittings on Amazon. They arrive within days. My dad cut the tile that has the drain. My friend and I installed all the wall tiles tonight. Just got done. Was a chore. Also installed a weather proof plug outlet in the fuel side panel. It's arc arrested...don't worry.  (https://busconversionmagazine.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20160720%2F7ad1cb40fa324c95acf4ce159457c24b.jpg&hash=f9faa7e5267fbe4ad87d413ebb487c956ac99386)(https://busconversionmagazine.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20160720%2Ffa076d15922576c8e476047590969215.jpg&hash=4a3b1691b5944a1c8ba7edff04a2d797fa84b056)(https://busconversionmagazine.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20160720%2Fc255db9aae06e5d0e9cb4e35a350c331.jpg&hash=cc8c08b580c2d10861c92f5d7ad0cdc71d9b8b58)(https://busconversionmagazine.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20160720%2Fbe44c556e976ac94cb09f21a757dab6e.jpg&hash=56ab7618221db35d0a94d50598aa6d366a1cd435)(https://busconversionmagazine.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20160720%2Fd2762edb74aa2fab1e4e0f03d3888617.jpg&hash=fc33dcae1c1abebf95bcc03a6ec940a13b9eaf3d)(https://busconversionmagazine.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20160720%2Fe11f1cc7f601e6999d334d8af54c68e8.jpg&hash=d8985f343a1fe8f98eb798cda475eada98127afe)(https://busconversionmagazine.com/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20160720%2Ff64af6cdb0b32f3df57b8153b3f86738.jpg&hash=2dc13c84d96bd056bb895b2082053855f66309a2)

"It is arc arrested". An electrician was telling me that the Canadian building code requires every circuit in a new house to have arc fault interrupters since January 2016. He says it is a nightmare. Lots of service calls resetting breakers. You look at them sideways and they trip. Home owners remove them after the inspection... Will be interesting how you like yours...

You are under the gun to get this bus ready, and you have worked hard and long, but there is still something that quite possibly needs attention at some point - your emergency escape exits! It looks like there are only two windows in the entire bus, which may open or not, and maybe a roof exit or two. It really seems to me that you need more in the way of exits on both sides of the bus and on the roof. With all of that softwood inside you have a lot of fuel for a fire, and accidents do occur while on the road that have resulted with coaches laying on their side. Please consider every type of disaster that can happen and what you and your family would do to get out. The people in the back should be able to get out as well the ones in the front, and don't shoot the messenger, he wishes you well.

Lol. The arc arrestor might hate me but being that plug is so close to the diesel fill, I felt it necessary. Walter coach does have roof exit in rear and two emergency windows in front. Two windows going in the rear as soon as we can. Thanks bob. We loved the old barnwood tile so in it went.

Scott - looking great! Just wondering about the shower wall, is that thin set you are using? If so do you think it is flexible enough? I am thinking of tiling as well but probably going to use SilkaFlex to mount the tile.

Scott tile coming out nice. I have laid a bunch of that same tile on walls , floors etc. You look to be using a 3/8 groove trowel the only difference would be to use a 1/2" groove on that large of tile because of the weight. It will be fine with the Flexbond and looks like you are getting good coverage. Love the look and that is really easy to keep clean too. ;D

PS Bjorn you could use Flexbond or Versabond from HD or Lowes equivalent. It has lots of Latex flex in it for contraction and expansion. You can even add latex additive to the regular cheap thinset and it will work. HTH

Bus project on hold for a week while my wife and I and our baby girl attend an important family wedding in Curaçao. I know I know...sounds like a vacation but really this is an important family function in my Indian family. Well, it sure looks like an overworked converter family having a grand vacation in paradise!
