We went shopping for a new fridge for the bus the ? are LG fridges reliable.I would be happy with 20 cf that draws 2.7 amps she likes the 26 cf 3 door model that draws 3.5 amps. Are there better fridges out there with better amps draw 3.5 amps on a 26 cf fridge sounds to good to be true but it is a inverter compressor and with LED lights.I would like opinions good or bad
I have heard LG's (Liquid Gold)are pretty good also Samsung's are good.

I have a lg in my house. I will NEVER buy a LG fridge again. It's a higher end side by side upper with a lower chest freezer with water and ice in the upper left door. Just about everything has broken! Lights don't work, not because of burnt out bulbs, ice maker broke, most shelves in the doors broke. I have a large family but this is ridiculous. I tired to get some of it fixed while it was under warranty but it was a major pain and it never got done. Tried to find replacement parts on line, no go! Just my experience

I was just looking for a alternative for the SunFrost to save a few bucks and with the inverter compressor the LG is not a power hog plus the self closing doors was a neat feature for a bus I thought, but it's mute point if one fall to pieces back to SunFrost ;D
By comparison, LGs are junk over the long haul.>>>Dan
I have a summit 14cf. and so far a great frig.It has a 1.5 amp draw which is great for running off batteries. After five years I have had no problems and is really quiet.
Don
Anyone checked out or have a Samsung?
Clifford. I found the fridge for you. Looks like a nice setup ;D

I bought my Dometic Sidewise with ice maker and ice/water dispenser in the door about 5 yrs ago.
They retail for around $4,500 to $5,400 come with a two yr warranty and you can purchase an extra couple of years warrenty which I recommend.
This fridge is completely automatic.
No more worries of frost buildup etc with auto defrost and electronic computer controlled temps.
I got mine from a guy selling RV parts from a city close to Elkhart ID and paid less than half with shipping inc.
The reason it is important to find someone from that area or selling on Ebay from that area is that many entrepreneurs with cash attended the massige creditors auctions that took place in Elkhart 6,7 yrs ago when the whole RV industry went belly up and the creditors liquidated the entire industry's inventory there.
Whole lots were sold on dime to the dollar semi loads of everything imaginable and it took weeks to sell it all.
I did some researching on ebay to find RV parts sellers in that area and contacted them till I found a guy with 20 plus of these fridges and bought it brand new on the cheap.
It might be to late with so much time time gone by but then again you just might find that one guy who still has a few of them or whichever one you want and get it brand new on the cheap.
It's only time spent researching, contacting.
Hope this helps.
I have a Nova-Kool 12V fridge. It's small, cools fairly slowly but once it's there, it's cold. It was expensive (about $1500) but it uses 48 watts when running hard, less when not. That's about .4 amps at 120V. I bought it for the low current draw and it's been perfect.
The very thing I wanted to avoid is a low capacity fridge and even smaller freezer atypically found in RVs as I live in mine and wanted to be able to by smart and freeze it as well as have lots of room for vegetables for healthy eating habits and the two large produce bins are great.
This fridge is 12v for the electronics only so not to much and is gas when off the grid or 120 when on.
Fridge is always at 32 deg freezer at -01 to 03 deg.
If ever you get one I suggest you get a solar powered fan roof vent.
Maybe solar panels combined with a windmill power gen to charge your batteries will take some of your consumption worries off the table ?
I have used the Honda 2000 and at 1 gal per 20 hrs I found 3 to 5 gals a week to be manageable for my low income.
This large capacity fridge and freezer allows me to shop once a month and save on frozen items as well as eat healthier.
That and the smart pot electric pressure cooker has become indispensable in my kitchen.
Anyway I'm just chatting away like a pied piper here :) enjoying my morning joe.
if anything helps it's yours and if not it's just my way of saying how do. :)

If ever I marry an artist who can't open a fridge door for the melon going sidewise I'll be sure to spend that extra grand or so to get one but unless she carves melons all day and I live further than oh say 500 miles from the grocers and eggs go up to $900.00 plus a dozen wouldn't it just be cheaper to buy a dozen of eggs to boil em or drive home to check the fridge yourself ?
I mean like, WHY?
:)
I can see the Samsung coming in the Prevost and Newell, lol a guy setting in recliner checking the fridge with his Crestron on a big screen counting how many beers he has left

Yes, a good thing about doing buses "our own way" is that we get what we need for our own lives. I understand your need very clearly (I often wish I had bigger -- one thing I'll say is that the NovaKool has a super-cold freezer but it's small. OK for me, but small.) I knew that I was giving up a lot to get the small power draw but it's a good decision for me.

How do and good morning!
I use the NovaKool 9cuft 12v/120v compressor refrigerator. It pulls only 5.5 amps @ 12v when running. Only down side, it doesn't defrost. To supplement that, we have a Norcold 2.1 chest freezer that can be set for cooling or freezing. There are newer chest freezers that have split insides. I'm repeating the same on the truck.
Good Luck, TomC
Ive got the Nova Kool as well. Its a great fridge and keeps ice cream hard but when the ice cream is hard the veggies in the drawer can freeze up.
Also - no auto defrost so if you are going out for more than 2 weeks in FL that Ice will quickly build up on ya. I do like the low amperage draw and having everything run off batteries. With (4) 6v batts my fridge will go 2 days.
My next build will be a samsung with auto defrost and ice/water.

We are currently remodeling our kitchen at home. Need to buy a new dishwasher. Went to a local independent appliance parts supplier that I have purchased parts from over the years to get his thoughts on brands to stay away from. LG and Samsung were immediately mentioned as brands to avoid as well as anything Sears is pedaling. He said LG and Samsung parts were hard to come by, and quality was hit and miss if you were going to get a good unit or not. He hears lots of complaints about Sears warranty service (or lack there of). FWIW.
After looking at some searches and some discussion a point seems to be the counter depth as many know that has changed. with handles / without
So if staying with rv types is anything deeper than 28". I am seeing some that are interesting but to get above 19cu the ones I noticed late yesterday are 30" or over that in depth.
I don't think it mattered before if the door took up the hallway room, you just waited.
This gets me considering whats the opening if window is removed for an install now or later, as that is up for some discussion whether it can be moved in and angled all in the move.
Like 6' could be a task, would like to here some on the height with installs, curious.
My factory windows are maybe ? 28 in a squeeze measuring between the weather strip.
Is it a consideration to have two small units, even if the choice is all electric or combo gas n electric.
thanks for the topic

We are looking at counter depth fridges about all can be ordered in counter depth, and that is what the lady wants ;D
Floyd some take out one of the front windshields to get them in. ;D Most of the refrigerators brands these days seem to be made or have been bought by one of the biggies.
I think it was Whirlpool.... or Frigidaire? Check it out pretty interesting who owns what now.

I have the Dometic Sidewise with ice maker and ice/water dispenser in the door.
Here's a video of the same minus the door dispenser.
https://youtu.be/Eom-Yrtt-NM
this fridge is huge with two bins in both fridge and freezer for produce / meats. freezer and fridge are equal in size and computer controlled so freezer is always at about -2 as fridge nevers goes above 34 nor ever below 33
with doors removed is just able to be man handled and forced through the door of my 1964 4106 but had to remove entry railing and then some finagling and brute strength.
be sure the remove the ice maker water dispenser valve in the rear as it sticks out just enough to get broken.
wasn't easy but sure glad to have it.
God is good.
it fits beautifully in my kitchen and with the auto defrost a pure joy.
hopes this helps

I checked on the Dometic Sidewise fridge it has been discontinued since 2008
thanks anyway
I thought some removed the windshield/s.
Check out Summit refrigerators. They have some counter depth refrigerators. I was going to use one, until I found they have the condenser coils on the back of the refer.
This is the main reason I like the 9cu/ft NoveKool-it has a bottom compressor (barely can hear it run), and breaths from the front of the unit. Then you can tightly build it in without worrying about venting. Good Luck, TomC
We check the Summit the 11.5 CF draws as many amps as the LG 20.5 CF
If you don't need service, Samsung is all right. Their warranty is almost non existent. I know somebody that bought one. The compressor went out on month two. It was three months before service showed up. They came out of the San Francisco area, 150 miles away. No service in Sacramento. Really? Same for the TVs. New somebody that had to "take it in" because it was under 55inch. Literally dropped it off at some guys house.

Hmm I bought a Samsung TV from Best Buy in Vegas the service was outstanding they sent a truck out to pickup the TV and returned it in 4 days and hooked up all the components

My Cindy bought a "three door" Samsung on her sister's recommendation. It has never flat quit but it's never worked right. Temps wobble around, the icemaker freezes up and backs up into the filter, it keeps throwing error messages but not when it's acting up -- when there are problems it never shows an error message. Her friend down the street had a similar one that blew out the circuit board (and died dead as a hammer) after 4 months.
After the icemaker froze up the third time, Cindy called Samsung service under warranty. They said they were sending a guy from Burlington -- first two appointments, he never showed up. When he finally did (after Cindy had missed two half days from work), we figured out why, he was busy in shop class at high school. Probably his first semester - he didn't seem to know one end of a Phillips screwdriver from another. He got it more or less working but it's still not right and it's still showing extraneous error codes. She ain't a happy lady.
Refrigerators are like tires.Even some wouldn't own Michelin's because they believe they are junk or from reports from others.I think almost all Amazon items with 5 star reviews have atleast a few one star ones.
I bought a Samsung Washer & Dryer about five years ago based on reviews from Consumer Reports, and I have not had any problems whatsoever. Maybe some items are made in Korea, and some in China or elsewhere, and that accounts for different qualities. The service you get might depend on who you buy it from. It used to be you could depend on GE's, Frigidaire's, and Maytag's to last for decades, whether they were efficient or not.
Yes it's 2:58 AM. Yes I'm awake again at an insane hour. Yes I'm stressed about getting my coach conversion done...
Some honest experience here:
We installed a used Samsung 26 cubic foot fridge in our MCI 9. It lasted us 6 years without a hitch or problem whatsoever. That fridge saw power surges, brownouts, 50hz from an old broken generator and frequent shut down and startups when old generators were acting up. Never ever gave us any trouble. So, in the new conversion, we ordered a counter depth Samsung from HD. We opted for the slideout freezer drawer and no water/ice in the door as we drink bottled water and enjoy the extra space for food. since this unit is counter depth and only 33" wide, it's only a 17 cubic foot unit. But we also have a small chest freezer on board so I think we are good.

Woke up this maw'nin, guitar in my hand; I had them Carrboro blues. Ice maker in Cindy's Samsung froze up like Greenland.
My fridge deal is over with we decided on the 19cf Sunfrost with the bottom freezer,I like the idea of having 3 power sources 110ac.12v or 24v dc and there wasn't much different in the price between the LG and the Sunfrost lol plus I can drive the bus to the manufacture and he will help me install it and wire it properly since I have all 3 power sources I can screw up
Crazy price for those things. Household refrigerators are getting more efficient every year with govt. energy use regs. More and better insulation, smaller and more efficient compressors, drawer freezers, double door fresh food sections, led lights......pretty soon the only reason you'll need a sub frost for is multivoltage.
The prices posted on the internet are his suggested retail prices for the SunFrost fwiw,he is sorta of a @$# to deal with at first till he figures out you really want to buy then he deals and becomes more personable
Hopefully that includes the Penguins also!... ;D

It listed for 3400.00 with the extras my wife wanted and I got about 20% off,and I pick it up in Chino Valley Az @ Dynamx in 2 weeks to save the shipping charges and paid in CA no sales tax but I have to report the sales tax according to AZ laws
