Title: Best Bus Route to Bend OR
Post by: Seangie on June 11, 2016, 01:48:21 PM
Anyone familiar with route 20 and 26 coming off of 84 and heading out to Bend?

Is one route preferred over another in an old 2 stroker bus?

Thanks.

26 is a more scenic drive and once past Bates and the Blue Mts the Ochoco Forest is not bad I think around Table Rock you get up to 7000 ft.
Route 20 is the fasted most and direct route but a miserable drive  I presume you exiting 84 @Ontario.If you have the time take 26 we do, you will be fine.
There is a nice rest area on the Snake River just a couple of miles west of Ontario on 84 if you need a spot to spend the night it always cools down at night. The Walmart is in Payette Id across the river. It's cherry time in Id let the kids get their fill of fresh cherries they would enjoy picking their own

We've done 20 a few times Sean, nothing much exciting to see but direct. 26 sounds like something we should try next time. One place we do like when coming up 84 is near twin falls. Craters of the moon national monument, one of the strangest natural landscapes to visit. I think they have a campground there although we stayed in Twin Falls. Craig

Craig - That was on our list but we ran out of time.  Ended up 2 days in Mesa Verde and canceled Arches cause of the heat (102 degrees) and picked up an extra day in Bend instead.

We definitely want to spend more time in Utah so we will be back.

We took 20 this time cause its an hour or more quicker.  Next time we will take 26.

Put it on your bucket list it's a lot of fun to see a 3 year old play a fiddle like a seasoned veteran The we have a friend Dennis Copper that does a harmonica seminar for kids for free just what you need kids trying to play a harmonica going down the road  ;D btdt
