On our way *to our wedding* our water pump (1986 MCI 102A3) started leaking heavily.
We had it checked out and the seal seems to be dying, it's leaking coolant heavily out the weep hole.
We tried finding a replacement and failed, looking up the parts doesn't seem to help, we keep finding water pumps that are "walking" instead of "standing" for the bottom two pipes.
Also, we aren't sure whether the gearing is reverse or standard (left or right) - does anyone know the correct info for this pump, or, even better, *where we can get one?*. Failing that, somewhere we can get the pump rebuilt in a reasonable amount of time? (A&T Rebuilders in MO have a 5-8 day lead time)
According to the MCI parts manual, it's part #23506031, but nobody seems able to find that. The shop thought that we needed 23506602 or 235602, but that is a "walking" pump.
(We were able to make it to our wedding thanks to a continuous replacement of coolant/water and are now happily married!... and hoping to go on our honeymoon instead of spending two weeks waiting for a pump rebuild :) )
Call Luke or order a kit on line the seal is bad and it can be replaced with out pulling the pump

I am baffled by this - how would you even get to the seal without pulling the pump off? And I was under the impression that the seal had to be baked in?
And as a wedding present, a pump has been found!

Is the old pump worth keeping and/or rebuilding and/or selling?
You pop the cover on the front of the pump remove the impeller pull the seal install the seal,install the impeller ,tighten the nut, install the gasket (o-ring) cover, and snap ring,you install a different water pump the person doing it needs to know how to set the gear lash

read that part carefully about the gear lash. might be important...
According to Ocala Detroit, "not tight, just a 'little' lash, not sloppy" was how we did it, worked fine- FWIW
I could rebuild the old pump, but I have yet to see how anyone can pull the impeller seal out without taking the pump off and apart. It must take some Kent-Moore tool I have never seen.

You cannot replace the seal on a pump that has the bolt on cover without removing the pump but the pump with the snap ring and cover the seal is right behind the impeller

Anyways, the new pump is in.
The bus used to run with the temp gauge really solid at 185 once I hit temp. Now it's running really solid at 190, right at the top of the temp bounds.
Should I be concerned?
Did you bleed both Tstats?

might have an air lock.. yes watch the temp.. do you have over temp shut down or are you it ?
The engine could have had the 5130701 high capacity water pump and they sent you the standard water pump for your serial number too
1) There is an overtemp shutoff and I know it works from when I first got the bus and Mike Kadletz thought it would be clever to run the bus with the solenoid to the fan belt turned off.
2) How do you bleed the tstats (and I know where one is by the pump, where is the second?)
3) I think this is the big bore pump since they had found the small bore pump and didn't want to use it. Is there a way to tell? The pump is the same size on the exterior.
