Does anybody have a source for square o-rings? We have a self priming fuel filter that needs one. Of course the manufacturer no long supplies parts for it and wants to sell us a new one to the tune of about $900. Looked every where with no luck.

A CAT dealer should have it is for a Racor ?

Yes, it's a Racor. I can't imagine them not even having the o-ring for it. We jury rigged it to keep it from leaking and it lasted about a year.
I guess we can take it out and measure it for a match. Do these things have to be some special rubber for the diesel? Or just buy a few and replace them if the melt.

Davco is doing the same parts are getting hard to find for the older units too.i found that o-ring on a cheap oil filter at O'Rileys for around 6 bucks before
This is exactly the main reason I won't use one of these filter units on my coach. Every time you turn around, they either discontinue a model and parts for it or the company goes out of business. I prefer to stick with the two screw on on my 8-71. I'm sure that some newer engines with higher pressure and finer nozzles or very precision fuel pumps probably need them. I guess I'm showing my age.Btdt too many times on the latest greatest over the years.
You might try McMaster-Carr for square O-rings or a Parker store. Also, a round O-rings would probably work if of the proper cross section
Check out "PARKER O RINGS" They make most of the O rings sold in the US!!
You can also try ford, international and cummins. They all use those on their fuel systems
hi Don, just today had to get a quarter sized metal "0" ring, square edged for under the turbo, from we williams, lvmci..
A while back I needed an off-size O ring, and after calling around I found that you could buy a "make-it-yourself" O ring kit. All you have to do is get the mounting base, and calculate the length, cut to size with a razor blade and use superglue to mate the ends together. A square O ring would not be different except you have to cut at a 45 degree angle.

I guess we will take it apart and do some cross matching. It's a little thing, about 1 1/2" across as I remember.

Much easier just to stick with the 2-spin on filters.

I guess this is why I quit posting for so many years.

Hey George, always appreciate ideas, just not always good at responding. This thing is kind of weird in that it isn't round. All the sides are square. Does the kit have square material in it? We haven't run into square ones before.
Cary
The O ring doesn't have to be square. A round one (cut to a square shape) with the same diameter will work the same.
I thought of something else today-- If you have a square O ring you might be able to match up the thickness and length with a square O ring from and oil filter. Go to WalMart and see if you can find a $4.00 filter with the right size. Cut it to fit and use the Super Glue to put it together.

Any decent bearing warehouse should be able to help you.
