Title: remote battery disconect
Post by: doublee on May 02, 2016, 01:25:16 PM
Anybody using a remote Bi-Stable relay for the main batteries with  lvd to monitor the batteries.
Went to start the bus and realize I left the batteries on when I got in there this Feb. This was the second time this set of batteries has had this done to them and I don't think there coming back, not even 2 years old  >:( >:( >:( >:!!!
So I was looking into this the first time I left batteries on 5 years ago. It would have been paid for by now.
What also really up sets me is the bus was plugged in but somebody hit the charger off.

That would be nice to have, but one still has to remember, lol.  That would be the hard part for me.
How much is the item?

Ted.

Well I was going to put the switch right as you entered the bus and a little led light in the front window so if i walked by I would notice that it was on.
With the lvd it will shut it down if i do forget.
Plus it would be a lot easier for my wife to use.
Title: Pre Driving Check List? ...
Post by: HB of CJ on May 02, 2016, 03:47:22 PM
We actually had a printed and embossed check list.  It would have included the master battery disconnect switch located close to the batteries.

Our thinking was that when the Bus Conversion was not being driven or used, ALL the chassis power was disabled.  Click ... Click.  Worked for us.

Might also have worked on the House Side of things.  The printed check list was sosss that we would not forget to include ourselves or her on trips.  :)

The simple mechanical switches such as on the Eagles in the engine compartment are much cheaper and effective. All it requires is memory and a 40' walk.

I don't mind the walk it's the memory I have a problem with. ;D

You have more chance of remembering if you ask yourself, "why am I going to the back of the bus", and by the time you get back there, and open the hatch and see the bright label that says, "turn me off, I'm saving you money" you might actually turn it off, unless the phone rings or someone talks to you, etc. The same could happen at the front of the bus with the expensive solenoid, but then you would feel worse. If you do it as a steady ritual, it might get done, but then you might not remember that you did it. Remember the movie Catch 22? The senior years are sort of like that, but at least we have cool buses to forget things about.

Lots of different ways to do the same thing . . .

I like having mine parked here at home. I can check on things as often as I like. I can also ensure the power is still on . . . .

I have a 3 position switch ( to control relays ) Shore Power -- OFF -- Generator Power
I also have volt meters & amp meters for each leg of the 240v 50amp power supply.
(Also have the same for the house batteries)

On my dash, there is a switch to merge the house batteries with the chassis batteries. Nice to be able to connect them while driving & separate them when parked.

A friend has had some issues with his auto transfer switch - sometimes it doesn't switch properly. Since it is automatic, he forgets what is happening (or supposed to be happening).

Happy travels with whatever system you are using!
