My parts manual seems to be missing pages for the steerable tag assembly. They are 12.o4xx. Anyone can scan them and send to me? derrick.t at mail dot com.
Derrick,
That is how they would have come from MCI. We never did anything to our steering. Call their 1-800 number and ask them to send them to you.
Thanks.
John
Well heck Derrick I checked my factory parts manual mine doesn't have those pages either. not that I want to buy any parts for the follow along tag it all looks expensive to replace anything on it ;D
Clifford,
We had a local bus company get the steering tag working. It makes a difference. You do have to be careful in really tight situations. That rear end can swing pretty good and we almost cleaned a car out. It is a cool feature.
John
I LOVE it
Clifford the tag steering has been locked out on mine and I would like to get it working. I will have to wait for the coffers to refill, but I would like to figure out what I have and what is missing. Just a couple of airlines dangling, and none of the indicator lights come on. Is there some kind of computer module for this thing?
I don't know if the DL3 has it or not, but, on the D4500 there is a second air cylinder at the top (near the floor of the bus) that changes the caster of the axle when the bus is put into reverse. This is to make the wheels trail correctly and not cut to one side or the other and drag when backing up. If you're looking at the tag wheel from the side, when the bus is put into reverse the wheel appears to move quite a bit.
I need to look more closely at what is/isn't there. There are supposed to be 2 air cylinders and I do remember seeing the lower one, but I don't know if the upper one is still there. Of course I wasn't looking for it when I was under there either.
The DL3 are little different that a J4500 just 2 locking pins and air cylinders controlled by electric air valves it looks simple enough but mine works so I haven't fooled with it.A tour driver told me they need to be in the locked postilion on the hiway if they don't do it automatic after 20 mph I need to find out if that is true or not
On our D4500's, 20 mph is the automatic lockup point.
I would be interested in those pages of the manual also if anyone can get them

According to 'da book' that is spot on. There is a speed sensor that operates the solenoid for the lock pin @ around 20mph, and a relay that operates the solenoid for the latching pin when the trans is shifted into reverse.
I have verified that both air cylinders are in place, the airlines are capped and dangling, and the reed switch wires are just dangling which would explain why I never see the axle lock or steer lights come on, as they are operated by the air cylinders.
According to 'da book' the series 60 utilizes an mt42 starter which I have a spare for the other bus. Is it exactly the same? Should I keep it for the DL3?
Call MCI tech support 800-241-2947, they will send you anything you need. Good people to work with.
