Title: No more Software Updates for Two Strokes ?
Post by: Beachfinn on April 05, 2016, 01:44:35 PM
Had an interesting conversation with Steward & Stevenson / Dallas today. I called them about getting the software updated on my 6v92 DDEC 3, wanting to see what the current rating is and whether it could run a higher hp. Apparently my engine came back as 300hp. however, Detroit Diesel can no longer upload the 350hp software due to federal emission regulations...
well thats a bummer, since they are the only ones that can do it >:(

oh well, slow it is  :)

No, but they would be very happy to sell you a brand new Series 60 which still has updates available.  :o

Are RVs and Fire Apparatus still exempt?  Or would one need to come back at 2 am and bring cash?

I know that fire trucks (and military obviously) are exempt, i have not found anything about RV's. I'd love there to be exemption.I don't think cash would help since the software is downloaded per instance to a specific engine, directly from DD  ;D

Did you say you live in Mexico where the software is still allowed?  ;)

DD dealers have not been able to bump up hp for awhile now a on-highway engines but there are plenty of places around that can.I use off highway software for my own engines

Don't have a 15 year old computer wiz handy. Some of the techs kids can make that happen. Just to show you they can.

There's no software update on the 8V-71 since there is no software. Only hardware. Good Luck, TomC

hmmm off high way? I know DDEC 1 was a chip update, but if anyone knows of a guy, who knows a guy that can do it,,,pm me some more info?

Not that it's that lazy where it is, but little more would be nice. It still has the road speed limiter too, so that has to go  ;)
