Well, we're here for another day, as although the roads in the Dallas area are clearing up, we just don't know as if we can chance I-35 northbound, especially northern Texas and through the Arbuckles in Oklahoma. ??? South and East Oklahoma got it the worst, as they had freezing rain, rather than the sleet that OKC received. I breaks my heart that we're headed back to the mega-mall to do more shopping. . . just kills me! BUT, Larry agreed we needed the exercise of walking around, and we sure don't want to stroll around outside, so he really had no argument against my suggestion that the closest large area for strolling just happened to be Grapevine Mills Outlet Mall! tee hee hee. :D
We got ready to leave, and realized that our deadbolt, facing north, had pretty much become a solid block of ice. Larry borrowed my hair dryer and managed to get it thawed out, but by the time we were ready to leave, it had frozen back again, even though he had sprayed it was WD-40. We decided that the hair dryer was an essential "tool" to carry in a bus, and in this case, our car, as we wanted to be able to sleep in the bus tonight, not in the car. ;)
Larry had already started the car, so I waited in the nice warm car as he used the hair dryer on the lock in order to get it locked back. The wind was blowing hard, and it was ICY cold out there! Little did I know that, originally, when he came out to start the car, he entered through my door because his was frozen shut. I'm in my seat, belted in, and when he makes it to his door, I belatedly realized that with his keys in the ignition, he had no way to get in. I quickly stretched across to unlock his door, reeeaaaching as far as I could, trying to flip the lock button. Well, no matter how hard I pushed with my very fingertips, I couldn't quite get the lock to flip, so I had to straighten up and unbelt myself. ::) Once again I reached across, and pushed and pushed on that lock. . .it just really didn't want to flip. Of course, Larry's hopping up and down outside. . .and he's thinking that I'm just messing with him! Finally the lock gives enough and he's able to open the door. He leaps into his seat and gives me one of those looks meant to say, "I'm GOING to get you BACK for that!" ha ha. He was somewhat satisfied when I explained to him that I really WAS trying to open it! :D
Now, we're sitting outside the mall, and he told me to take my time getting out fo the car as he wanted to take a quick smoke break. I wonder how long I can sit here and type, "taking my time" until he bangs on the window, :D. Christy Hicks
Chrissty;
I love the way you two make the most out of a bid situtation. I just know it really breakes your heart to have to go shopping, yea right. What are you going to do rent a trailer to carry all your new things home since I am sure by now you have filled the bays and all available space in the bus. I have faith you will find a way.
Are you sure the lock was frozen or did you just not want to open the door and let all that warm air out and all the cold air in?
Keep us posted and above all stay safe. It is no fun driving on ice, been there done that.

Christy, I am sooooo very sorry you are having to spend more time shopping. I know how difficult it must be to force yourself to go back to those stores. If there was any way I could trade places with you and take your pain away, I would. Please know that I am thinking about you. Cat (snicker, snicker)
Up in the alleged snow capitol of the US where I come from, Buffalo NY. The rumor is not to use WD40 on an exterior lock as it can freeze! Only making the situation worse. Is this one for "Myth Busters"?
Thanks for your concern, Kat, but I buckled down and suffered through it. Now, I just have to figure out where I can make Larry take me so I can wear the gorgeous formal gown I bought! Works for me, ;) Christy
P.S. yes, the bays are full! and the Jeep!
P.S.S. We always used WD-40 because we were told it displaced the water. We decided to stop and buy some lock de-icer just in case. . .seems to me that Larry didn't enjoy the "stand in the cold wind with a puny hair dryer" routine very much. ;D
