Title: Hehr vs Peninsula Windows
Post by: Scott & Heather on March 28, 2016, 05:49:46 AM
We have fulltimed for 5 years now with Hehr dual pane Windows and have been super happy with them. Trying to sort out what our plan is for Windows for the 102 and spent time on Hehrs site. They have the frameless look Windows which is what we are looking for, but haven't determined yet if them make them in dual pane. They keep saying "insulated 1/2" glass. But I have no idea what they mean by that. Is there anyone that would recommend peninsula over Hehr or vice versa? Looking for frameless look flush mount dual panes.

I have been very pleased with my Penn windows in my bus (single pane). They are still tight after 14 years. I have square corner double pane on my truck. The windows are so tall (38"), I have just the bottom 12" sliding.
Since Hehr is in LA, I might have used them instead of Penn that is up in Vancouver Washington. Good Luck, TomC

Thick insulated glass has been used in commercial building for years,I am not a google person but I don't think there is much difference in the R factor between the low e double pane and thick low e single pane or the new buses and RV's would be running the double panes. They use the thick glass on building for added structure strength I don't know about buses if they add to the strength or not.I sure like the look of the bonded thick glass on the new RV's and buses over the frame type

They are both good well established companies, so go with the best price on the model that looks best to you. I got four sliders for my Eagle in 1996 from Peninsula, and they still look good and function well.

Cliff, I wonder if just having an air gap makes the difference since glass is such an excellent thermal conductor.

My Hehrs' have been in there for 21 years over some of the roughest roads in North America.  They still look good. Have had some of them reglazed due to moisture and damage from the big awning. Most good glass shops can reglaze them.

Mine is a Eagle. The above might not be true if you've got Prevost curved glass.

I have no experience with Eagle.

Thanks for the vote. 21 years is a pretty long stint. Reglazing meaning taking them apart and cleaning and putting back together or new glass altogether?

Penninsula single pane sliders. Must've been built on a Friday afternoon. They don't slide easily. Some leak. Some of the screens don't fit properly and fall off... I don't think they are as good as people say.

Another vote here JC  ;D only good thing is Peninsula can make it to fit the original opening,I never liked the mickey mouse screens on Peninsula.I bought some Atwood double pane from a sale a few years back from Country Coach those were good windows I sold them to a guy for a Eagle he loves them

Scott,

Reglazing to me means:

I took them out and delivered them to the glass company.
They replaced the glass with new sealed units and reassembled the window.
I picked them up and reinstalled them.

Hope this helps
