Title: Toilets (May be NSFW!)
Post by: RJ on March 10, 2016, 10:46:51 PM
NOTICE - This post contains humorous graphic descriptions.  Adult supervision suggested!

Of course, the women in the audience will simply shake their heads and wonder what the problem is all about, but the guys will understand as soon as they read further on. . .

I have a SeaLand 500+PS toilet in my MC-5C, aka Tortoise.  After putting 18K miles on the coach since November of 2014, I've decided it's time to replace the throne.

There's nothing wrong with the unit at all - it works perfectly and I have had no issues with it, except one:

I'm a guy.

And therein lies the rub, literally!

When it's time for #1, piece of cake: Flip up the lid & seat, aim for the ball, flush, drop the lid & seat back down and you're done.  Well, after washing your hands, that is. . .

When it's time for #2, it's a whole different bat and ball game!  Flip up the lid and sit down.  Be sure to lean forward so you can tuck the equipment down under the lip of the seat.  Now, when #1 decides to accompany #2, better make sure you're leaning forward, otherwise Mr. Happy will squirt right through the gap between the seat and the bowl, immediately soaking your chonies.

Should you avoid the soaked chonies, when you reach for the TP, Mr. Happy now gets battered by the seat insisting that he remain below deck, even though the TP holder requires you to twist your torso in order to reach it and thus also trying to pull Mr. Happy above deck at the same time.  Poor guy's head gets all banged up during this manoeuver!

Once you're finished the TP routine and it's time to stand back up again, don't forget to lean forward and sort of roll off the throne, because if you don't, the underside of the seat's gonna grab Mr. Happy's ridge and attempt to send his head into the black tank abyss below.  Or, if nothing else, make you start looking in the drawer or medicine cabinet for that tube of Neosporin to sooth the damage.

Notice in the two photos below the shape of the bowl and seat.  The tan unit is the one in my coach, the white on is in the house.  You can easily see when you compare the two, why the RV throne simply comes up short - ouch!

So I'm in the market for a new throne.  I'm leaning towards a Dometic High Profile 320 unit, but am open to suggestions.  I'm not interested in a macerator unit, so don't even go there.  I like the simplicity of the ball-style gravity flush, fits the KISS principle nicely and is not prone to leaking.

Now back to our regular G-Rated discussions. . .

Looks like you need an elongated bowl type toilet.  I'm a big guy and I can relate to everything you have said.  The seat was often referred to as " the guillotine." for obvious reasons.  I finally broke down and bought a toilet with the elongated bowl and I no longer have any issues.  Now, for the life of me I cannot remember the model or make, just that it was damn pricey...about $500 a few years back.  It is porcelain and nicer than the one in my house.  If I get a chance, I will go check and see what it is.  You know that is one of those things that is forgotten about as long as it's working.

There is absolutely nothing offensive here. Just a comical description of life in the day of a guy. I completely understand and this is why we bought an elongated bowl. Our dometic 310 didn't have this issue. But it did leak. So now we have a residential. We love it, but it does use too much water so we are going back to Rv toilets but haven't found one we liked yet. Will be interested to see how this thread drifts

We have this one and for all the reasons listed above its perfect
http://www.thetford.com/product/aria-deluxe-ii/ (http://www.thetford.com/product/aria-deluxe-ii/)

It's China bowl, elongated seat, a little extra height, electronic flush (available manual).

We damaged ours, but will buy another just like it.

I wouldn't build or own a bus without the Thetford Aria Deluxe

It has a plastic blade that slides back to open and forward to close.  I've never actually looked at other RV toilet valves, so I don't know the difference.

If you go #1 and flush a short flush you might only use a tablespoon of fresh water.  If you need lots of rinse for other reasons, you can do that too.

Yeah Cliff, Ordered flapper seal off Sue for mine and she said the new Microphors are around $4000 bucks. Metal, Powdercoated to the color of your choice. She told me to keep that Porcelain one going. Been in mine since 1991 and still a cranking or a flushing.

I have the same Sealand 500 toilet and am also a big guy. I don't have any problems like that with the toilet. I guess it depends on the long or the short of it. Good Luck, TomC

I like my Microphor china elongated unit. It was pricey. Not $4000 pricey or I wouldn't be writing this.

Easy solution is to sit all the time.  Save a lot of mess.  Also consider an over sized elongated bowl that sits higher also.  Us big guys understand. :)

If you have a short pecker and need to sit, use you hand to push it down and aim.

So I am told.....

HB -

#1 by itself is no problem.

Re-read the paragraph about #2.  It relates to when #1 accompanies #2 when you're already sitting.

Geoff -

It's not the size of the equipment, it's the angle of the dangle if you don't lean over!

For those who haven't looked, the Dometic 320 I'm considering IS an elongated bowl.

Found one online for $165. . . but haven't decided yet.

I want to take my 45 year old thetford out of my mc5 and get rid of the plastic dometic that came in my 102. I rebuilt it few years ago while I wintered in quartzite. Bought a kit from the used rv parts guy there and I think it was almost $200.

RJ,you need to take in the parts prices for toilets,on some the seal valve you buy the complete assembly and cost more than a new toilet. I forgot the brand but on my daughters MH they wanted $145.00 for the valve and $128.00 for a complete toilet. The board went out on our Thetford and Camping World charged us over 200 bucks for the little board so check out the parts prices.LOL did I ever tell you guys a foot pedal doesn't belong on a toilet I hate those things

RJ, the 310 worked out good for (us) me. Elongated, slightly raised and a good price, simple. Never liked the Butt spray hoses, thats what the shower is for LOL!  ;D
